Note: I classify free time as when there is nothing needing to be done outside, inside, or otherwise in my life or home.

As of writing, I am currently living with my mom and stepdad who I adore dearly and am preparing to start collage as a freshmen in the fall of this year. I have a job (that will be important later) and have always been relatively helpful around the house when asked, as I am now aware that I am an adult living in their house now and need to pull a bit more weight than I did in high school.

As of recent, I have had an issue with how I want to spend my free time. Until recently I did almost everything with my mother that she wanted to do with me but recently she has been pushing me to be more independent and live my own life. I have been trying to do this but every time she makes some comment about how she’s going to “miss me so much when I go to collage” it makes my heart hurt even though my collage of choice is not even more than 4 hours away from her home. So every time I get any ounce of free time I want to spend it on my hobbies or talking to my friends as those times are getting few and far between when I have to juggle both preparing incoming collage classes and a Job.

So, in short, AITA for wanting to spend my free time doing the things I enjoy instead of wanting to spend every waking moment I have free with her?
