6mo lab issue with moving from house-car and vice versa

I have a 6mo old lab. He’s awesome. Learns very fast, knows lots of basic commands, fetches flawlessly will walk with loose leash if we use front clip.

We have a yard, but it’s small, surrounded by neighbors, kenneled hound dogs, and a cowfield. In short, I don’t have a fence so potty breaks, moving through the yard is always on leash because he just wants to run off and explore which isn’t acceptable or safe.

This dog will not move easily from the house to the car and vice versa. Once at the car, he jumps in flawlessly. Once at the door to the house, he goes right in. I know he’s not scared of house or car.

The ONLY way I can get him to walk smoothly from one place to the other is a toy or a crazy high value treat like cheese. Otherwise he makes it 5 steps into the yard and lays down. I’ve tried just “waiting” sitting or standing still. Then he chills and eventually bites at the leash like crazy. I don’t know what to do I don’t know how to get him to move between the spaces efficiently. The car is going to be a part of his life, so is the yard leash until I can get a fence built (if I even can, property is rented.) the only way for me to get him some off leash fetch or sniff/explore time is by using the car. what can I do to train him to just move through these spaces? Does this just sound like a normal training issue or something else? Like potentially pain jumping into the car? He seems to do it readily and excitedly once AT the open car door he just won’t go to the door.

STEVE

He’s growing into a distinguished gentleman in the house. Still psychotic puppy out in the world but we’re working on it. Had his DNA done, he’s 100% good boi.
