I am so shocked this thing bloomed 😭🩷

bought this bad boy at 1/4 of its height and left it in an east facing window (with obstructed sun!) at my job for a few years. Finally read a bunch of posts on here earlier this year and decided to bring it home for a big chop, but my partner begged me to leave the “tiny palm tree” as is - so it’s been in a western window with tons of exposure all summer.

I was SHOCKED when I saw 2 buds appear on it. The first flower’s now been open for almost 2 weeks and the 2nd one just opened this morning.

Pod book pre-discussion: Veiled Flames by Mara Leigh

In order to maximize the amount of happiness and joy that reading a kinda doodoo book can bring to POS Book Club members world wide, it is my duty to step up and announce the inaugural foray into romantasy to the subreddit.

This biweek's book: Veiled Flames by Mara Leigh.

Confession: I recommended this book. I do not think it is more doodoo than any other independently published romance book out there, but I think it presents a premise that is zany and the perfect dip into romantasy for all the POS book lovers out there.

Let's see what the people are saying.

From Goodreads, where this book has 3.69 stars:

https://preview.redd.it/9tmvweqcshsh1.png?width=916&format=png&auto=webp&s=ff9b563cb1d8a6747a34b79bff5431a4a3e0a2e2

From romance.io, where this book has 3.73 stars:

From Amazon, where this book has a perfect 4.0 stars:

What is this book about? From the author's website:

>Princess Rosomon wants more than her sheltered life provides. She flees an arranged marriage to a cruel old king. Disguised as a boy, Rosomon joins an elite dragon rider camp, breaking every rule in the Seven Kingdoms of Light. Women can’t ride dragons—it’s forbidden, impossible, blasphemous to think of a woman mounting a dragon’s pommel.

>At camp, three passions await: a mysterious dragon master who knows her secret, a rival prince who hates how much he wants her, and the untamable Behemoth dragon no one dares mount—until now.

>When Rosomon mounts her dragon, the lines between man and dragon blur and ancient wrongs are revealed.

Anything else you should know?

I'll share the tags from romance.io because there's definitely some implied off-screen CW type things:

Happy reading out there, folks!!

Does anyone sync up their TBR to their heat cycle? I need low effort writing to give me a dopamine spike during this proestrus phase.

Hey omegies, do you guys notice that your estrous cycle dictates what type of books you can handle reading?

When I'm in diestrus and anestrus, I can focus on and remember the tiny details like the plot, setting, and characters.

But the second I hit my proestrus phase, my tolerance for a story with actual world building or multifaceted characters drops to absolute zero. My proestrus phase brain cannot tolerate meandering plot lines or additional plot points that aren't tied to the main characters getting closer to boinking.

When I’m in heat I can’t read.

Does anyone else experience this shift in brain capacity? Do you have recs?

The book I DNFed is Manacled.

Basically I still want an interesting fantasy world, romance, tension, and plot - I just need it to not mak my brain hurt from having to remember anything when l'm in this part of my cycle.

Completed series only!! It needs a quick hook, clear plot, limited POV, world building i don't have to take notes to remember, fast pacing so I don't get bored by developing characters or said world building. It doesn't have to be cozy or low stakes, I love a good dark romance too.

Fetish for being fucked at gunpoint, need input

sup people, title. i'm a male in case you were wondering and yeah, ive always had this fetish, since before it became a tiktok trend.

I think it'd be super hot if a woman fucked me at gunpoint, and something about women with guns turns me on (im a feminist)

that combination of sex and violence just does something to my limbic system. i'm into femdom in general and i think its hot for a woman to have power over me. i'm posting here because i hear you guys know if its bad to crank it to non/dudcon?? am i bad person for this? can i go to heaven?

anyways, should i get therapy or is this not bad if i dont have anyone point an actual gun at me? ive had a girl do it to me with a nerf gun which worked pretty well

It Ends With Us - Pre-discussion 💩🪠

(podcast spoilers ??) so at the end of the last POS Book Club podcast, the gracious hosts announced in advance that they were planning to do It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover as the next book, so that the rest of us club members could readalong beforehand.

This is a punishment for loyal listeners because now the onus is on me to read a piece of shit book??

Zero Research Summary of the Book

The discourse around this book was a little bit insane if you spare a glance towards social media influencers from a few years back. Hoover primarily writes contemporary romance novels --- beach reads for moms is sort of the vibe I'd always gotten, but something about this one...was different?? 🔎

Spoilers/trigger warning but also I must reiterate I have not researched this: >! I think the book starts off as a regular love story with a regular-style insane male lead, but then he becomes overtly abusive over time. !< Idk how it ends tho, but clearly it ends with us!

Does it glorify abuse? The question on many googler's minds, according to the Google autocompletes.

I couldn't say, but holy shit did other people have a LOT to say on this topic when the book got popular. YouTube badly wanted me to watch about 25 4-hour long videos about how bad this book is every single day. For flavor, I attached pics from an fresh private browser of the Youtube videos you find when searching the book.

✨ Double the Controversary ✨

Double the fun!

So not only did this book have discourse galore over whether or not it makes domestic violence sounds awesome, but it also had an insane media cycle surrounding the movie adaptation. I'm not sure I could summarize it all without research (which I refuse to do), but here's some I kinda remember off the dome:

  • Blake Lively said the girlies should "wear their florals" to see the movie (tone deaf I think but wowee did this blow up, people were pissed!)
  • Lively accused directory Justin Baldoni of being...weird? In a vaguely gendered kind of way? Sexist, maybe?
  • Baldoni responds by saying that, in fact, Lively is the weird one
  • Not exactly related to the movie but around this time people also got really mad at Lively for getting married on a USAmerican plantation. And now it's a public Blake Lively pile-on event!
  • Lively and Baldoni exchange so much public fire that they end up court over it (I don't remember who sues who but I think it's a libel case.) I think this case has recently concluded but idk ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

Personal Preconceptions

This is the part where I'd like to hear from the rest of my fellow book club members!

Me personally, I’m a little bit nervous to take the dive! I must admit my primary fear is a bait-and-switch from our hosts that makes me read this book for no reason...

But I'm a regular romance reader, and my general impression is that if you’ve been reading romance books for a long time then this book won’t be anything terribly new or unusual. So I frankly fear that it will be BORING! 🫩 I'll read any piece of shit romance book as long as it's weird, but boring is a sin I can't abide.

Call To Action

My library appears to have “infinite” copies of it on Libby, including the audiobook, which is probably true of most large-city libraries. So, go out and suffer! I'm posting this at 10am PST on a Monday to minimize the amount of people who see this and save everybody a headache 💖💖💖💖😘

FMC who looks like and/is the author

There have been a few books where it looks like the author wrote themselves into the story and they are the FMC. I don't mind that they do.

I am an author, and my FMC looks like me. When jealous girls (who are LOG) are mean to her, I’m writing from experience - people are mean to you when you’re hot! My hair is so long and healthy that it gets stuck in my butt crack when I lean my head back - am I supposed to just not include these world building details because it makes ugly girls upset? Like sorry you’re literally bald, but my FMC is trying to do the hero’s journey over here!

Has anybody noticed this? Do you care? Do you not care?

My girlfriend was playing a Twilight clip (Edward railing Bella on the beach) while we were doing it and had a massive, convulsive orgasm

Me (20m) and my gf(20f) loves each other alot, we have sex about 4-5 times a week and it's rather vanilla.

But for some reason, on a date night and after dinner, we went to a hotel and got down to business pretty quickly. However, this time i notices how she wants me to be dominant (arm restraining, doing it on the table, the floor, against the wall), overall pretty kinky and i did enjoy it.

It was all fun and game until she was about to reach orgasm, she went for her phone, play a pre opened video of said subject, put it to max volume, held me so tight(we were doing missionary) that her nail broke skin on my back and i bled a little and she had the most intense orgasm I have ever had with her since like the first month of us starting to have sex.

I'm not even sure how to process this, should I be mad? Should I take it seriously? I know it's a celebrity but her doing this like this does hurt my ego a bit since she's using my body as if it was a vessel for her celebrity dreamboat fantasy, but again, it's just a celebrity crush.

Hot take, but the Twilight series is not good

I’ve gone off the deep end with romantasy in the past year, reading more than I read in the first 20-45 years of my life combined.

Well, I decided to finally get around to the OG, the series that started it all, the series so big it spawned an entire subgenre and single handedly saved the publishing industry……Twilight.

And yall. I. am. So. Disappointed.

There is so much setup, so much pining, so many teenage hormones, and after all of that…….she never even gets rawdogged by a werewolf?

Maybe it’s just because I’ve read so, so many, like a really crazy amount (like at least 4 or 5) books in the past year, but compared to all of the newer, fresher takes on the genre, I just kept asking myself, where is the monster fucking?

I get it, Stephanie Meyer is no Jane Austin. But like, I thought she would be basically mormon Jane Austin? But I guess I forgot that mormons really don’t do monster triple penetration out of wedlock.

Idk. I guess I’m basically a little bit put out that everyone else seems to like this series but maybe I’ve just grown beyond it.

Charlie tho………………………

A very embarrassing search request: a romance where the MMC "eats" the FMC's booty like groceries

This is an awkward request, and I really wish I could ask this even more anonymously, but I remember reading a book where the MMC goes down on her and kind of "eats" her booty. I don't remember anything else, but I think it was a romantasy story (or a 2010s pop rnb song)... I’ve been looking for it for quite some time, but I really have no clue which book it was. I’d also welcome other suggestions 😂🙈😳
