Unauthorized Work/J2 Visa
I am currently on a J2 visa accompanying my spouse who is a resident physician. Last year I accidentally worked for 2 months while waiting for my EAD renewal and I quit working upon realising that there is no automatic extension. So I resumed work after received my EAD. This year I got my EAD renewed and it’s valid until June 2027. Has anyone been in similar situation? Any advice would be helpful. I plan to travel to my home country for a family emergency and would need to go to the consulate to renew my visa. Later my spouse plans to adjust status and apply for green card. USCIS website states that unauthorised employment will be given under 245 (k) if the violation is <180 days and there is no misrepresentation. I’m worried about the DS 160 form as it asks if you have ever violated the terms of the visa? Has anyone been in a similar situation on a J2 visa and marked yes to that question and gotten their visa approved?
