What are our chances of getting a US tourist visa

Myself and the wife are planning to apply for a tourist visa. Both of us are working in well established global organizations with decent pay. My only cause of concern is that my wife went with her family to Iran when she was a kid around 25 years ago and I went to Syria when i was a kid around 30 years ago. I will no doubt mention that in the application but is there a possibility we get rejected due to this ?

To add, we both are passport holders of a relatively wealthy country with good relations with the US and tourist visas get issued pretty commonly to our fellow citizens.

B1/B2 visa interview

I have my interview tomorrow at the Karachi consulate.

What's the good answer to the question: Why have only Pakistani doctors offered you observerships?

US embassy tourist visa appointment pending

Hi All,

Looking for advice or shared experiences from anyone who's dealt with something similar.

I applied for a US nonimmigrant visa through the US Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal. My interview was back in August 2025. Since then, my case has shown a status of "Refused" on CEAC (which I understand often just means administrative processing / 221(g), not an actual denial), and I submitted all the additional documents that were requested shortly after.

Since then:

I've sent multiple follow-up emails to the embassy asking for an update
I have received no response at all — not even an acknowledgment
The CEAC status hasn't changed since it was first updated

It's now been almost a year with zero communication.
Has anyone else experienced administrative processing that dragged on this long with total silence from the embassy?

Did contacting your Congressional representative (if applicable) or using the State Department's public inquiry form help?
Is there a point where a case is more or less considered abandoned/stalled versus still "in process"?
Any tips for getting an actual human response from Lisbon specifically?

Appreciate any insight — mostly just trying to figure out if this is normal or if I should be escalating somewhere.

Live in Canada, but drive into US to fulfill residency requirements?

So my wife and I are trying to figure out a few things regarding her iR1 greencard.

She is a canadian citizen and our plan was for her to move to the US, but now she got a great job in Vancouver (CA) and I live and work in Seattle (US).

Here's what we are wondering: Can she continue to work at her job in Vancouver and just spend the weekend at my place in Seattle? This is so she can slowly complete her minimum residency requirement of 3 years in the US total.

Thoughts?

Rejected for F-1 twice, ESTA approved then revoked—Is marriage my only realistic option for studying in the US by 2027?

I’m 19 years old and was accepted to a college in the United States, where I was awarded a partial scholarship. I also had sufficient financial evidence to demonstrate that I could cover my tuition and living expenses even without the scholarship, and I have strong ties to my home country.

Despite this, I was refused an F-1 student visa twice. The main issue that appeared to work against me was that I have a U.S. citizen boyfriend, which may have led the consular officer to question my intent to return home after my studies. Although the visa refusals were disappointing, I had planned to visit my boyfriend and meet his family for the Fourth of July. I applied for ESTA, and it was initially approved, but a few days later I received an email saying there had been an update to my application. When I checked, my authorization had been changed to “Travel Not Authorized,” meaning I could no longer travel under the Visa Waiver Program.

I spoke with an immigration lawyer, who explained that visa approvals are ultimately discretionary, meaning there is no guarantee even if an applicant appears to meet all the requirements. At this point, I’m left wondering whether marriage is the only realistic path to achieving my dream of studying and living in the United States by the fall or spring of 2027.

What should I do ?

I’m not looking to game the system. I genuinely want to study in the U.S. and I’m trying to understand what realistic legal options I have after two F-1 denials and an ESTA revocation. Is it worth trying for another F-1 in 2027 if my circumstances haven’t changed much, or is there another path I should consider

Reapplying after US Visa B1 refused

I applied for the B1 US Visa in February this year (the interview), and I didn't have any travel plans but I wanted to have the Visa just in case I needed to travel to US for a business event (I work for an US company, but under the Brazil entity. It turns out I was invited to an event that is going to happen in October, so I am replying for the B1 Visa and my interview is going to be next week. Since I had my visa already refused this year, I am a lit bit skeptical. I have a letter from my company saying that I will only stay in US during the event and then I will return to Brazil, but I don't know if that is going to be enough...I live with my fiancé and our dog, but it is a rented apartment, we have money (that's not a problem), but I also work remotely....I don't know...do you have any tips?

Administrative Processing

I am writing to seek help regarding my EB-3 immigrant visa application, which is currently under administrative processing.

I would like to provide a brief of my case for context. The application process began in 2022, and my priority date is September 2022. I was initially scheduled for an interview in 2024; however, my employer at the time rescinded the job offer, which effectively reset my case. Fortunately, my agency was able to secure a new position with a different employer, and my priority date was recaptured and retained from 2022. ( I am a registered nurse)

Subsequently, retrogression occurred in the visa bulletin. In 2024, I married and added my husband and stepchildren to my application. In 2025, I gave birth to triplets, who were also added to the case. As my husband and children reside in Germany, I requested, with my employer’s consent, to transfer my case from the U.S. Embassy in London to the U.S. Embassy in Germany. This request was approved, and I was offered an interview date in March.

On March 13, 2026, all eight of us—myself, my husband, three stepchildren, and my triplets—attended the interview. I am originally from Nigeria but presented my British passport during the interview. My husband and stepchildren presented their German passports, while my triplets presented their Saint Lucian passports at that time. The consular officer was courteous, she gave a verbal approval, but issued a Form 221g requesting the submission of either British or German passports for the triplets, as Saint Lucia is currently subject to a visa pause. Additionally, it was noted that my medical results had not yet been transmitted to the consulate, and this was also requested in 221g.

In May 2026, we submitted German passports for the triplets and received confirmation from the embassy on May 26th that both the medical results and passports had been received.

In June 2026, I received another 221g notice indicating that the passport photo I had submitted was older than six months. I promptly retook the photos and sent them to the embassy the following day. On June 15, I received confirmation of receipt of the new photos.

However, on June 22, I received an additional email stating that my case had been placed in administrative processing and that this cannot be expedited.

Given the above, I seek guidance on the following concerns:

  1. What could have triggered the administrative processing at this stage, given that all requested documentation has been submitted and acknowledged?

  2. Is it likely that my visa will be issued before the expiration of my medical examination results on September 4, 2026?

  3. Are there any further steps I can take to facilitate the timely resolution of my case?

This prolonged uncertainty has caused significant stress for my family and me, and I would be most grateful for any advice or assistance you can offer.

B2 visa appointment proofs

Hello, I’m a French citizen seeking to visit my long distance boyfriend (US citizen). We’ve been planning for a long time to close the gap for a couple months as we both want to be a normal couple and are tired of the distance. Have successfully filled in my DS-160 form alongside scheduling a B-2 visa interview, been to the us back and forth on an ESTA and have all the necessary documents asked but have a few questions concerning extra documents that could help me through the interviewing process such as proof of him inviting me to stay in the us (what exactly should be written in the letter), proof of being able to financially support myself (I have nothing as I will have just graduated college by the time of the interview) and proof of attachment to my home country (I don’t pay rent as I live with my parents, and do plan on finding a job in my field after my visit).
So yeah if anyone has any advice on what to do and what extra documents could be useful to me?

Filipino 28F applying for B1/B2 Visa with my mom 55F

Please help assess

I’m planning to apply for a US tourist visa (B1/B2) together with my mom and would appreciate any insights.

My mom is 55 years old, a housewife, income comes from our small farm but no ITR. She has siblings in the US and an ongoing immigrant petition that was filed in 2013 by her sibling.

I’m 28 years old and currently working as a Software QA. I’ve been employed for over 5 years, with almost 1 year in my current company

We’ve been denied visa in 2002 when my grandparents were still in the US.

Both my mom and I currently hold Australian tourist visas. We are planning to apply for our US visas around August or September. Our intended purpose of travel is to attend my cousin’s wedding in the US next year and tourism.

Our travel history:

• Me: Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, and Australia

• My mom: Singapore, Thailand, and Australia

It will only be the two of us applying. My father and sibling will not be applying for US visas. My grandfather also lives with us.

Will the on going petition affect both our chances of getting approved?

Thank you!

US ESTA approved then denied

Update:
after waiting and doing a second ESTA it’s been approved, applying twice doesn’t do anything. It’s a glitch in the system and it’s being fixed for everyone thank you to everyone who helped, World Cup here I come!!!!(Everyone that reapplied a second time please enter your name and passport details on to the ESTA app and say you do not know your application number - I have just checked and they have now approved!!!)

Applied for my ESTA on the 23rd, got approved no problem. This afternoon (flight’s tomorrow morning,10 hours) I get an email saying there’s been a change in status. Log in and it now says “Authorization Canceled” won’t even let me back into the application.Tried reapplying. Instantly denied. Tried a third time system won’t even let me submit, says I’ve already been denied. No criminal record, nothing’s changed on my end, no idea what triggered it.

The weird part: my sister applied for hers a few days after me, for the same trip, and hers is still fine. So it seems specific to me somehow, not a blanket issue.US embassy’s closed for the day already, so no chance of sorting a visa in time. Travel insurance is refusing to cover the flights too, saying it’s “my fault” for not having a valid visa even though I had one approved and it got pulled by CBP, not something I did.

Flight’s in about 12 hours. Pretty sure I’m not getting on it. Going to submit a DHS TRIP inquiry tonight and call the airline, but realistically nothing’s happening before tomorrow.

Imminent travellers with ESTA rejected after acceptance thread (flight tomorrow)

UPDATE2: Approved again, phew! For reappliers, please call them as your original is probably now dead and your latest is rejected because you (at the time) had a previous rejection

UPDATE: After speaking with ESTA hotline - they created a case and expedite it but my status also changed from "not authorized for travel" to "authorization pending". Someone else from the thead had a similar change of status to pending.

Called embassy about ESTA cancellation. Person on phone was rude saying it’s nothing to do with them. On another thread someone said their local embassy said it’s a global glitch.

This is a data collecting thread:

It seems this is a payments issue on their side during that period, as everyones payment details is now null on the application.

Has anyone reached the ESTA hotline which opened in the afternoon, what did they say: ?

Is there anyone this is happening to who didn't apply on the 23rd/24th: ?

Was anyone was rejected WITH giving social media handles: Someone did and was rejected

If anyone has reapplied please let us know the result: Someone did and was rejected

ESTA visa

Hi fellow users of reddit.

I am currently in USA on a ESTA visa for work purpose. I am going back home but before I do I am going for a short trip in Canada. My return flights are through US.

The problem is that upon my return to my home country I am going from TORONTO -> TEXAS -> HOME. My ESTA expires on 7th July and I am entering Texas on the 18th July. Can I apply for a new ESTA or will I require a visitor visa as the airline flying my from Toronto to Texas is different one than Texas to home so I will have to go through security.

Has anyone changed from J-1 to B-2 using Form I-539?

I’m currently in the U.S. as a summer camp councillor on a J-1 Camp Counselor visa and I’m looking into applying for a change of status to B-2 using Form I-539. The camp has some serious issues that I am not comfortable with and I have decided to leave, I would like to stay for the summer with my girlfriend though so looking for a legal way to stay for 8 weeks.

I’m not subject to the 212(e) rule, and I’d like to stay in the U.S. for around two months as a tourist before returning to the UK. I wouldn’t be working and would be staying with my girlfriend.

Has anyone actually done this? Is it a legitimate option that gets approved, and were there any consequences for future visas or ESTA? I’d rather not get into the personal reasons for wanting to stay, but I’m mainly looking to see if I have options.

Thank you!
