This gets asked a lot, so I figured I’d do my part – Images included. Ask any questions.

Using the Lancer handguard with a thicker tucked suppressor is definitely doable
Here, I will show my Lancer with both a Ronin SD suppressor (1.62” diameter) and the CAT Mob (1.64” diameter)
The question is, do you want to permanently alter that expensive handguard? Of course you do! America!
If you do it right, more than likely, no one will notice and if you decide to sell later on, the modded extra clearance will be a selling point.
The problem fitting a fat can inside the Lancer is that front, aluminum edge guard/support. It takes up some room making the inside diameter 1.6” diag. (See images)
Without that edge guard/support, the inside diameter is closer to 1.8”…Crazy! But DO NOT think about removing it as it’s there for a reason, to support that big carbon fiber opening. Plus, it’s glued with some kind of space age adhesive.
The solution is to simply file away the problem.
Filing away just a mm or two will make fitting and tucking that thicc noise-go-awayer much easier.
I used small files and the mighty Dremel at a lower speed and steady hand. Remember, you only need to remove enough material for about 1-2mm clearance. If you want to remove more, that’s your prerogative.
OD – 2.01”
Handguard thickness - .09”
ID *horizontal (w/out edge guard/support) – 1.84”
ID *horizontal (w/ edge guard/support) - 1.71"
ID *diagonal (w/out edge guard/support) – 1.8”
ID *diagonal (w/ edge guard/support) – 1.65” – This is the problem clearance area for most cans.
ID *diagonal (w/ edge guard/support) AFTER removing material – 1.7”
Edge guard/Support thickness - .158”
You can use M-lok but you will need to file them down, just as you would have to with the MI handguard and large diameter cans.
I filed the T nut down to roughly 1.2mm thickness. Then filed the actual screw to about 7mm
You can probably get away with fling the T -nut to about 1.8mm thickness. I use mine for other handguards so I went thin.
Modding stuff is fun. Take your time.
Remember, you cannot put material back on… File a little bit, check clearance… and so on until you’re satisfied. You only need to remove enough material to get a mm or two clearances as the barrel whip is minimal to non-existent with these guns.
After I filed off the material, made sure there was enough clearance and made sure it was flat... My OCD kept getting the best of me… I used some Birchwood Aluminum Black and darkened in the bare aluminum.
Then drank beer.
Got the general setup (Subject to change), although the light is very close to the can. May rethink that...
Definitely class, that's for sure!
- Milkman with RU3 mount
- Factory 8" barrel cut to 5" - 1/2x28 thread (.625 length) with Rugged Tri Lug adapter - I had to use the thickest 2 AccuWashers behind the Tri Lug adapter to clear the handguard. Everything torqued and rod was centered.
Pics 2 and 3 show clearance
There was a thread on this but they deleted it for some reason
Not a review, but general first-time observations
I ordered on a whim to check out and have to admit, it's pretty nice.
Comes in a very nice box and packaged well.
Fit & Finish:
Fit and finish is really nice, solid. Texture is good and it fits to the gun (PTR 9CT) pretty tight. Had to finagle it a bit to get it on, but it is tight with absolutely zero movement. IT actually fits better than my actual Surefire… This is just fit and finish though. Long term reliability is unknown of course.
Weight: 10.4oz
Light operation:
Light operates by pushing the button on the handguard to the right (on) – This initially turn the light on, then you must press the pressure pad to turn off. Buttons kinda slide, not really click but stay in place. The pressure pad is pretty tactile on par with a Surefire
After that, the pressure pad is the main operation.
Quick press is constant on. Press and hold is the momentary.
Light is 6v with 2 CR123 included.
Light output:
750 Lumen / 9000 Candela
IPX6 waterproof
Pattern is pretty good with a solid, well defined hot spot and decent flood. Good for short / medium distances.
Head compatibility: (Change at your own risk)
This is kind of a big deal here - Being able to swap bezels... The light housing will accept 6v compatible light heads (Two CR123 / 600 series w/ 16mm thread) like the Surefire KE2-B, legacy Modlite (LED-T/F) or something from Malkoff
I did try it with a Surefire M640 Pro (KE2-B) and it operated normally. And did clear the CAT Mob…
I am going to contact MAC and confirm if it will run on a 16650 battery
Light head fitment / suppressors:
Theres plenty of room with my Omega 9k. With the CAT Mob, the supplied light bezel has probably about an 1/8” clearance from the bottom of the Mob to top of light bezel. It was little bit closer with a Surefire KE2B bezel but still cleared.
Price:
$199.95 Code (Welcome10) gets 10% off
I’d say it’s a good deal but of course, long term durability is still unknown.
Overall:
Initially, I’m pretty impressed with the handguard and will try to do some longer-term stuff with it. You may need to get used to it while installed as the light placement is a little lower than the Surefire Model.
As it stands, I think it'll be OOS... a lot
Mine will be on my 9CT.
Last mention: Place of manufacture is not listed anywhere on the packaging, manual or product. So...
Updated Measurements:
I don't have a can with a diameter larger than the CAT Mob (1.65") but from my measurements, it appears that a 1.875" suppressor will fit with about .0625” (1/16”) clearance with the supplied bezel. This would be the max diameter. The measurement will also depend on whether your gun, specifically the hanger is in spec or very close to it.
