What kind of collaboration should I have in high school English department?

I work at a charter school in 12th grade English. All of the other English teachers have worked longer than I have, so I have essentially no collaboration on my lessons. I have heard some English departments meet to plan lessons and I was wondering if this was typical in high school?
I have a district guy that is the head of the department. Should I be going to him to work on lesson planning? Is it typical for a second year teacher to struggle with lesson planning?

I am frequently totally lost with my philosophy class. Every textbook or curriculum I find ends up being way too much work to use and figure out for just an elective class. Has anyone ever tried just watching the videos and creating a lesson based on that? And if so how do you do that?

I was gonna prepare my agenda for the week but school told us the next 2 days are basically screwed up. I’ll see kids for like one single period tomorrow. Is it right to just have a movie prepared?

I was thinking the best way to get students excited about a philosophy elective would be to include philosophical movies. I found “the philosophy of jurassic park” which has essays exploring the aspects of the movie. I figured I could take an essay and use it to explain an aspect of the movie and then we get into watching it for a few days. Any other suggestions for how to explore philosophy in a movie for class?
