My new boy Ru has been home for 4 days.
There are times when my 10 week boy will cry, and my 6 year old girl will wag her tail and sniff hims and whine herself. Almost like when she has her false pregnancies and she mothers a toy after it squeaks. Today they did so well together while I sat on my bed- Rupert was lounging around and she willingly came up to him and give him sniffs on the ears, face and ween all while wagging her nub a thousand miles an hours. I gave her lots of praises for this and gave them both a million kisses. When I get home and my old girl gets greets, my boy Ru jumps on her in excitement and she doesnt bat an eye.
BUT
If my Koda girl is laying down first, and my boy Rupert wants to join us, she does lots of low growls. No snapping, no teeth baring, just low rumbles. She then gets up and moves when he gets closer, and finds her own area. This happens when i am not sitting with then and theyre "on their own". He desperately wants to lay with her, but she deflect this often unless she initiates; Even then she keeps a few inches away. She can be this way around her toys too, but she ends up dropping them and finding her own space away from my guy. He really bums her out during her firsbee sessions.
TLDR: Idk if she likes him and correcting him, or if she is more displaying resource guarding to me and her toys.
How do I go about this? I feel like I can't force her to share. It isnt her play style and never has been, shes an independent player. Do Koda and I teach Rupert not to steal toys, or do I teach Koda to share? Should the low growls during his approach ve corrected, or is she setting her own boundaries?
Found on my new puppy, very hard to catch running thru his hair. Was outside just before finding.
