14.1 L > 14.1 - 2023 MY P

14.1 L > 14.1 - 2023 MY P

Just hit my longest streak ever since 12.6.4

Took my usual 120 mile round trip commute. Took my usual route where I often complain about phantom braking.

Biggest pluses for me are better flow of traffic speeds. I noticed I can keep higher speeds much longer after influencing it with the accelerator pedal.

I take Ortega Highway daily with lots of twisties. It’s waaaay smoother and much more balanced. I don’t feel like I’m getting slammed left and right in my seat.

This is the most relax Ive ever felt with FSD

The things that ruin it:

Nav still screws up the flow every time. Making unneeded lane changes when I just need to stay on the same freeway. Nav screen will show path changes for no reason when I just need to stay straight on the same path. It’s just constant end of trips.

FSD 14.1 Lite - 2023 MYP - First 10 minutes…

Way less ping pong/swaying, smoother is what I first noticed.

First drive and already had to disengage 2x.

I was stopped at a light and navigation had me going straight. FSD visualization would zoom in and out every few seconds and try to signal right each time.

Then tried to FSD into a supercharger stall and it tried backing me into a handicap charging spot.

**Update**

I drove it 60+ miles today.

Still having issues with navigation:

It doesn’t recognize an expressway I usually take and it makes me take a toll road I don’t usually take even though I have toll roads disabled in Nav. I had to disengage a bunch of times. I even ended the trip in Nav and it still tried to make me exit the express lane.

No phantom brakes so far and the stab acceleration is gone. The 78 mph hard cap in the fast lane is gone and it reasonably accelerates fast enough with flow of traffic. The highest I was hitting was 83 mph. I also hit 62 mph on a 45 mph zone because that was the flow of all traffic. I definitely feel more at ease with that change alone.

I’ll keep updating as I go.

Things I love and hate about v14 Lite vs v12.6.4 - 2023 Tesla Y P

23 day streak so far since I got v14 lite. My longest streak was 100 miles. During which it saves me from getting hit by two cars simultaneously. One car on my left swerved into me while an erratic speeder sped and cut through while it adjusted on my right. It avoided both perfectly! Then my streak ended due to a huge phantom brake. lol.

Love:

#1 for me is sense of safety. The 360 view around the car can’t be beat when doing any kind of merging. It saved me from swerving cars or erratic speeders cutting through lanes. I also felt this on v12.6.4.

Smoothness, way smoother acceleration and braking. Your brakes and tires will have less wear. You’ll have better efficiency with v14 lite.

Less random lane changes on v14

Decisions make more sense on v14

Hate:

It’s definitely less assertive than v12.
When I don’t have a destination and I want it to make a lane change or a turn using my signal, it takes more time to make a decision than v12 which led to interventions.

The speed it chooses sometimes makes no sense. When you’re by yourself on the road it’ll tend to cruise under speed limit on Hurry mode.

It doesn’t sense cars speeding up from behind as well as 12.6.4. It’ll take a while for it to merge to a slower lane to let someone pass which has led to interventions.

Random phantom breaks. Some days it doesn’t on the same routes, some days they’re so bad I had to intervene and if cars behind were tail gating I would’ve been hit.

Tesla really needs to update the map software and improve communication with FSD.

First time with no interventions…ever

2023 Model Y Performance
I’ve been on 12.6.4 for sometime now and after upgrading v14 a few days ago, I feel it’s improving somehow? Some of that reinforce learning? It seemed to do its best ever today. I just had my first 60 mile trip ever without a single intervention. And it self parked into a Tesla charger in the middle of it. I’m actually amazed.

FSD v 14 Lite Review

I have a 2023 Tesla Model Y performance.

Things I like:

Smooth braking and acceleration.
Self drive parks perfectly in my driveway
Better lane management / change of lane decisions
Better awareness of poles or obstacles

Things I don’t like:
Lack of aggression when needed
Speed profiles are worse than 12.6.4
Lack of speed offset
Confusion in parking lot, missed obvious open spaces
Seems to ping pong within the lane, but very subtle.
Still misses pot holes

Suggestions:
Better integration of Grok so you can make it aware of the destination such as let it know you’re going through a car wash, or a drive thru.

Need maps updated asap. Or at least give it the same data that’s pushed through live on Waze so it can be aware of obstacles, police, pot holes, etc.

More sensitivity of obstacles around a parking lot especially on self park mode.

Speed profile selected should be able to match fastest, faster, slow, slowest traffic.

FSD Appreciation

When I purchased my 2023 Model Y Performance I never thought I’d even use FSD. After giving it a shot and being highly critical, I can honestly say it’s been a game changer. No other manufacturer comes close in self driving features and deployment. Here’s a vid clip of me on Ortega Highway. Give it a quick search if you’re unfamiliar. It can take me up and down in both directions flawlessly. I’m on 12.6.4 and looking forward to 14 lite.
