My very capable and intelligent wife has lost the plot.
She has been told by a friend that conkers keep spiders away. So we now have conkers in various parts of the house.

Inspired by the recent post about reflective heat covers - my exterior emergency blanket reflectors.
I cut and taped reflective emergency blanket onto the outside of the windows. You can still see through them to limited degree so that they aren't so depressing. Also they are on the exterior which eliminates that interior heating of the windows issue. In our one main problem bedroom, the temperatures have dropped 5°C roughly, possibly more.

The second picture shows how it is still slightly transparent from the inside.

It's cheap quick and effective.
