Used Genelec 8030B (700$) vs. Modern Alternatives at the Same Level?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking to upgrade my studio monitoring setup (JBL LSR305) and stumbled across a deal for a used pair of Genelec 8030B monitors in solid condition for around 700$
Before pulling the trigger, I wanted to sanity-check this decision with people who have used the 8030B or compared them against other monitors in this performance bracket.
- Use Case: Music production, mixing, and critical listening.
- Room: Nearfield desktop setup in a moderately treated room.
- Goal: Accurate translation, clean midrange detail, and a pair of monitors built to last for years without needing an immediate upgrade.
The JBLs extend to 43Hz low, the Genelecs are catching my attention for the amazing midrange and high reproduction and how fast the transients react. However, I know I will miss the low end. That's why I'm checking for modern alternatives (new) around the same budget for a pair.
I've seen the Focal Alpha 65, Kali In-8, Dynaudio BM5 Mk III, Adam A7V, Neumann KH 80 DSP, and they all look like reputable models (haven't heard them). Bunch of people are recommending Eve Audio and HEDD too. I'm confused and I cannot AB listen to anything.
The most important thing is that I want to feel the upgrade; I know the JBLs don't do me justice now. My ears have developed over its detail/resolution capacity.
