Now most of the gurus I'm interested in have already been decoded, I'm finding I am less and less interested in the regular episodes. Finding multi-part episodes on some horrible grifter almost as unbearable to listen to as it would probably be listening to the subject matter directly. The only episodes I really enjoy are when they have a special guest or when there's a guru that I already know about and I want to see DtG's opinion on it. Outside of that, the supplementary episodes are great because they seem to just shoot the shit and talk about current events, but I don't wanna pay for them so I don't listen to something I know will be cut off half way. Is this a genius marketing ploy by Matt and Chris? Paywall all the good stuff? haha
It's made me wonder... I started listening to this podcast soon after I was turned off Rogan, Sam Harris and similar. I needed a replacement, DtG was like trash TV for me, kind of still got to listen to the old podcasts I used to enjoy, but it was Matt and Chris talking shit on them. The other side of it is I just wanted someone who had better thought out views on things than I have, and I could just copy their opinion. I found myself more and more just trying to get Matt and Chris's opinions on things, subconsciously I just wanted someone who's view I could copy. Basically I want new gurus, I guess that's why I'm just out for their supplementary style episodes where I can copy their opinion. I remember being well aware I would just copy Sam Harris's opinions on most things back in the day as I considered him smarter and more well articulated than I am and I agreed on most his views already outside of Islam and international relations with the middle east (so I'd just reject that stuff).
Do you guys find you prefer the supplementary episodes over the regular ones?
Are you really just out there looking for new gurus like I seem to be? 😅 Is there anything wrong with that? I personally think it's ok deferring to authorities who have better knowledge on an issue than you do, but I know there are risks around doing that too much...
