So cute!
Sorry for the photo quality as I didn’t want to get too close but wondering what type of spider this is please? Ps I found it like this, I didn’t spray it or anything.
Wolf spider behaviour question: Not sure if you guys remember Nancy, the mother wolf spider who lives on our property. She recently had many, MANY babies, and I used to check on her every day or so, basically just peeked down her tunnel to say hi.
Anyway, this last week I have not seen Nancy come to the entrance of her home at all, and I shone a little light down there and can’t see her, not even a leg.
Do wolf spiders move into different tunnels? Is it something to do with her children growing up?
I just hope she’s ok coz she’s huge and a cool spood.
Found in my bedroom, Belgrave Victoria.
I've been told before that they're a Mountain huntsman Isopeda Montana but happy to stand corrected. Southeast VIC. Nobody else seems to appreciate these babies as much as y'all do ❤️
Subject is a portia female munching on some sort of web dwelling spider that she had just hunted. Please check out my other posts for my camera details!
Central Queensland, near Biloela. These guys seemed to hatch today and were trying to climb up our water tank. No bigger than 5mm across. Just had 5mm of rain yesterday after a bit of a dry spell. The spinnerets seem very funnel web shaped and they've got that banding on their legs. I didn't think they came up this far north. We do live next to a creek, which manages to stay relatively cool and could provide a micro climate?
Maratus chrysomelas with is full collider scope of colours to produce this they have two types of abdominal scales, rainbow iridescent scales, and velvet black scales. The iridescent scales are airfoil shaped structures with binary nanogratings, producing rainbow of colours
by diffracting and scattering light, a phenomenon known as structural colour. The colours change depending on the viewing angle due to the constructive and destructive interference of light waves.
The black scales are brush-like, trapping light to create a deep black that helps create emphasis on the rainbow scales

In simple terms, what you are witnessing above is two peacock spiders maiting. The male is on top of the female and has rotated her abdomen and has stuck his pedipalp into a "certain special place." Yes, the fluffy white bits on the males face are technically his maiting organs.

Iv reduced a number of these from our bath over the years and always wondered what they were. About the size of a 10c piece.
