A colleague at McMurdo Station Antarctica showed me this photo someone took of a ring in the sky. It’s been passed around station. None of us can figure out what it is. Anyone recognize this phenomenon?

Edit: consensus is it’s a smoke/vapor ring. The cold air at McMurdo probably preserved the shape far longer than normal, and sunlight hitting the ice crystals that formed around it caused the glow. Likely from an exhaust stack or vehicle on the base. I didn’t know a ton of details but was caught off guard at first when I saw it. Rumors spread like wildfire here too, so whoever took this… nice.
