Discussion: How is Altra for wide (4E) feet?
I just recently learned the reason all my shoes never fit me in my life is that I have very wide feet (size US 9 4E at least). My width is 11.0 to 11.5ish cms ( ive measured 4.3in to 4.5in sometimes) and my midfoot keeps pretty wide and doesn't thin much until the ankle and heel. I believe my instep is pretty large as well...
Altra brand caught my eye due to their advertising of roomy toe boxes and zero or close to zero drop which I am comfortable with. However, research and discussion seem to imply that Altras are narrow/normal width besides the roomier toeboxes.
Does anyone have any experience as a 4E or close in width wearing Altra shoes? If so what shoes do you recommend and how is the fit?
You can recommend other shoe brands as well, I know New Balance is the go to for people who need to buy wide, or so it seems.
Some shoes I have personally been interested in (don't know which ones have wide enough options):
- New Balance 1080v15
- Nike Vomero 18/Plus
- Altra Torin 8/9
- Hoka Clinton 10
- Brooks Ghost / Ghost Max
- Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25
I've had many symptoms of tight shoes in my life: foot corns, blisters, big calluses, ingrown toenails. Most shoes split and tore off the sole at the widest part the balls of my feet.
For reference, my most recent shoe is Reebok Ultra Walk 7 DMX Max (4E) and on first impression if anything was it was slightly tight, but I think it may be because of instep more than width. It's still comfortable enough to wear. The toebox seems a little narrow.
