Thought of the day: a Peter Gabriel/Trent Reznor collaboration would have been incredible

Among all the dream/pssobile collaborations people talk about, one I would have LOVED to hear is Peter Gabriel and Trent Reznor, especially around PG's Up years...

Up, as a whole album, feels like it borrowed A LOT from The Fragile in a lot of places (sound design-wise for sure)... and The Tower That Ate People (although not on the albu) in particular could almost pass for a Trent-produced track, imho... the whole thing makes Trent's remix of Growing Up so fascinating as it gives a little "preview" into what that collab might have sounded like...

I love the album, I love the original track, and I love the remix...

On this day in 1994: Nine Inch Nails at the Roseland Ballroom - Full Self Destruct Show (Audio)

On this day, May 14, Nine Inch Nails brought the Self Destruct Tour to New York City.

I’m posting the full show because this era is just so raw, violent, sweaty, every song sounds absolutely feral, and there is the chaotic energy that really put NIN on the map for live shows in the 90s. And to add to that, just listen to some of the comments from the crowd that you can hear throughout...they are just WILD, lol.

32 years later, still hits like a brick.

Thanks to original tapers and to u/ninlivearchive for uploading it!

Ruiner -> The Becoming -> I Do Not Want This is such a relentless and incredible three-song sequence.

This is such an amazing sequence and probably one of my favorite "song runs" in the whole NIN catalog. Ruiner has that "ugly swagger" to it (can't think of a better word, ha), The Becoming feels like everything is starting to come apart, and I Do Not Want This sounds like someone lashing out at everything around them.

Listening back to the three of them only you feel there's barely any room to breathe, but it never feels "harsh" just for the sake of it. I think it's a big reason why The Downward Spiral feels so conceptual.

Any thoughts?

[FULL SHOW] Nine Inch Nails - Atlanta (10/05/2009)

Happy 17th birthday to this absolute monster of a NIN|JA show. This one is just ridiculously good.

The setlist is fire from start to finish, the band is in great mood with amazing energy and we've got the chef's kiss with Saul Williams coming out for Survivalism and Banged and Blown Through.

Anyone else have this show high on their list from the Wave Goodbye era?

As always, thanks to the tapers and uploaders!

Shot this lonely tree in a field on a Zenit E camera, using Fomapan 100 bw film, then databended through Audacity.

The main inspiration was the track In This Twilight from Year Zero, really... I don't know why but it has that quiet but peaceful "end of the world" sort of feeling... Like you know everything is fading out and you're enjoying that glowing moment. So I wanted the image to be somewhere between film (analog grain) and digital damage (static, especially).. So it has that calm but unstable sense of collapse that Nine Inch Nails can do so well in songs...

First attempt at this kind of glitch art, so yeah... That's all, hope you enjoy 😅

First try at glitch art, since I wanted to do it for a loong time. But here it is.. a black-and-white photo of a lonely tree in a field, run through Audacity.

The process was inspired by Nine Inch Nails, especially Year Zero (and the track "In This Twilight")... that end-of-the-world calm, the static, the distance, nature... the feeling of something that start breaking down.

Photo was shot with a Zenit E camera, using Fomapan 100 bw film.

Released on May 6, 2021, the collaboration track "Isn't Everyone" by HEALTH and Nine Inch Nails turns 5 today!

Still one of the best Trent and Atticus collaborations, imho. Still sounds massive.

The Slip was the first Nine Inch Nails album I ever owned, bought it with my own pocket money back then... so I'm very happy to celebrate its birthday here today! 🥳

Still such an amazing record... raw and completely in-your-face. The rehearsal footage blew me away too, so here it is for y'all!

Also, a cool bit of trivia: Ken Andrews from Failure (another one of my favorite bands) mixed 1,000,000 and Echoplex from the rehearsals.

This is a FANTASTIC article that digs into music theory and why Trent sounds so... Trent!

Pretty accessible even if you're not deep into music theory as there are audio examples too. Definitely worth a read for anyone interested in the songwriting side of Trent/NIN.

Another favorite setlist from their Hollywood Palladium residency during the Cold, Black and Infinite 2018 tour.

This one’s a full pre-1995 throwback (reminiscing of the first leg of the Self-Destruct Tour), everything is from 1989-1994, including the entire Broken EP (minus Pinion).

Seriously incredible show. Enjoy!!! 🤘

PS: as always, all credits to tapers and uploaders.

Random take, but I was listening to both yesterday and honestly I think Divergence is way better than the Original Soundtrack album.

I know Divergence is mostly a remix/b-side release, but tracks like Godmode, Operand, The First Betrayal and Terminal are just very very good compositions. And the Boys Noize remixes sound HUGE (along with Pixel Grip and Mark Pritchard).

There's something about Divergence that feels more intense and memorable to me than the OST itself. Maybe that’s a weird take since it's kind of a companion release, but if I had to pick, I'd listen to Divergence all day...

Anyone else feel this way?
