Map housekeeping clean-up restoration

A while back I posted looking for a clean-up tool for orphan pieces stuck in rocks. Some kindly pointed me to Wemod, which had some use, but is only free for 2 hours at a time and I estimated it would take a lot of time to restore my map. Still helped though for sure.

I was looking for something else when I found a tool that DOES have what I wanted. I'm posting this because Icarus demands you pay attention to your building pieces if you want to maintain high FPS game play.

https://www.nexusmods.com/icarus/mods/289

this isn't my tool, so I can't answer much on it, but I can say for me, it saved me a lot of time starting a new map, hoping my exotic map seed was favourable, and many hours hunting down all the pieces I would have to destroy to fix my open world because drum roll....

It has a button to destroy all deployables in an open world, or by a radius!

It has a button to destroy all building pieces in an open world, or by a radius!

It has a button to destroy all splines (electrical, oil, water, biofuel pipe) in an open world, or by radius!

I worked out it would have taken me maybe a week or more to do this manually, what I did in a few button presses, after making sure my workshop stuff was sent back to the space station.

Seriously, if you would rather clean up a world you're attached to, than start a new, this helped me a lot and my FPS was back to glorious.

Battery and Solar calculator

Hi all,

This is a crude but working (work in progress) calculator for those who want to use solar and batteries.

https://github.com/lastinvisibleknight-cmd/Icarus_powercalcv1

Download and run the html in most browsers

I will eventually expand it to include other power and more devices, but for now, I hope this helps a few people with spec'ing their bases.

Quick explanation

Change panel and advanced battery amounts

Set your real time recorded 24 hours in game, I've default set 102 minutes suggested by someone in a post

Set the day night ratio, default 0.5 (1/2 the time) as a slider.

Set how many of each device and it's duty cycle with a slider, for example a water pump or deep freeze should always be 1 (100% always on) but you might only use a manufacturer for 5% of the time.

There are checks to tell you if you have enough solar panels to charge fully in the daylight based on your load, and if you'd last the night.

This is NOT perfect, just a start

Oils ain't Oils, how do you like your oil?

I'm a big fan of oil drills for the passive speed collection and lack of wiring going around but it occurs to me I've read and tried most of the ways to deal with oil collection, but interested in numerically comparing the needs of each on power usage and oil rate basis.

That is, what are the trade-offs numerically? Is one of these faster than the other but uses way more power? Is the very long pipeline the winner with the catch of a long ugly pipeline? Is organic actually faster once setup up, given it can be scaled (almost) infinitely?

Option 1, setup satellite bunkers running either an oil generator or solar panels and mule oil barrels either by mount or drop pod, or even an outpost/second main base nearby

Option 2, organic setup with crop plots, plants and multiple organic extractors running off base power

Option 3, a very long pipeline back to main base

** edit, I know the pros and cons for each method, I'm looking to optimise more than anything, so I do appreciate there are a lot of pros and cons, it's more about the numbers for me as I run oil drills **

Wanted, orphan build piece cleanup tool

I hope this doesn't come across as too out of place, but...

I have many building pieces that cannot be deconstructed due to geometry access limits allowing placement but not deconstruction. That number has grown every time I try a new ramp that turns out to be inefficient (oh the irony) or just suboptimal by the time I get near the end. It might seem trivial, but with the game engine limits, I'd rather clean them up, and no storm is killing a random limestone ramp buried in a hill, nor a few hundred over the course of a long standing open world.

It would be truly amazing to be able to open the map in a CAD package, or some viewer, and delete these nefarious frame suckers.

How does everyone else deal with them? I haven't tried shooting them yet, just know the repair tool can't access them to find the sweet spot of deconstruction.

I don't want to subvert the tree rejuvenation or the ore nodes, although that would be handy in an all in one, but it strikes me as the missing link to FPS woes is cleanup, and while I don't grudge the time, I grudge the inability to actually complete it.

If not, I might start a new open world and use the previous mess to learn from mistakes but would be good to cleanup.

Anyone else, any hardcore coders up for a challenge?

Steel screw change feedback

Thought I'd start a thread for opinions on this. Specifically, a steel ingot use to make 100 steel screws, now it's 10.

I don't like the change, that is my opinion. What does everyone else think?

Sandworm Queen trigger

So might be normal, but I have to ask because it's odd.

Is the Sandworm Queen supposed to respawn? I had her respawn while the original corpse was still laying on the ground. Is she supposed to respawn at all, let alone immediately on returning to the area of the biome after her defeat.

Elysium desert biome water consumption

Ok, so I understand debuffs and I've been here a while, but I thought I'd look at the numbers and it doesn't add up.

My standard water consumption of 300per hour get's bumped to 2160, that's not +250%

Bug, or is my math that bad?

Deep Cycler

Ok, love the concept and so far mostly so good, but..............

I've hit the same node more than 50 times now and still no Oxite. Can anyone confirm you can get any resource on any node? I'm on an outpost and I know I can mine the nodes but I wanted a full complement of deep mines.

Anyone had oxite on an outpost with the deep cycler? Arcwood if that helps.

Multi-map management, memory?? or just legacy methods to return to space?

I misread another post here, so I'm going to start this one.

Open world doesn't require the use of the drop pod to return to space and doing so means you have to join the open world you started when you want to return.

Is there any memory or other advantages of using the drop pod versus returning to character select screen? I haven't experienced any memory issues, aside from excessive slinkers on screen sometimes, or graphics card bottlenecks moving too fast.

Is there something I'm missing, or is it just a legacy feature maintained due to the mission based play style alternative to open world, that was the original game?
