Dog charged at tv and almost brought it down

We have had him a month. He is 10 months old. Last night, my pug mix awoke from a sound sleep and charged the tv, jumping at it and almost knocking it off the console table. I assume it was a nightmare and a fight or flight response to arousal, but he does bark at the tv when awake and I don’t want this to be an escalation. He was getting better, but lately he’s been more insistent with boofing (that pug noise) then growling and barking. Charging is new.

We removed him from the area and put him on the patio then escorted him to his crate and covered it with a blanket. He was perfectly quiet for the rest of the night. He was sweet and milder than usual this morning (He usually scrambles around excitedly before we walk) and great on the leash too.

His tv triggers are random except for dogs. Basically someone walks into the frame! I was saying quiet, redirecting him with a toy giving him treats when he is quiet or when he just boofs softly, and firmly resting my foot on him (seemed to work). He was improving. We also crate him out of the tv sightline if he won’t stop and he accepts that. I just don’t want to have to crate him whenever the tv is on. We live with a very elderly senior and she watches tv all the time.

I’m mostly worried about the charging. Is it okay to leash him when we watch tv, especially when he sleeps?

How did you get your pug (mix) to signal they need to go potty?

10 month old pug mix rescue who is doing reasonably well with potty training and toileting outside. (He tries to do what we want, like he just walked into his crate on his own when we sat down for lunch.) Last night, we missed the after-dinner walk, but pug had access to the patio except when we finally closed it, so he wouldn’t drink water out of boredom before bed, and because the indoor cat sneaks out and we don’t want that. He had pooped and peed outside 3x and peed after dinner, but then later drank the water. I closed the screen door,he came back and sniffed the screen and walked away and we found a big puddle on the tile by the cat box. So it’s like he did his best, but my question is, how can I get him to use the potty bells or scratch the door or bark at the door or anything????? It seems a communication problem in addition to messing up his routine. (He often won’t poop if it’s dark out on his walk because he’s kind of a chicken and our street could be more well lit.)

We just adopted the greatest puppy

I hope pug mixes are okay to post here. This little guy’s mama was a black pug and he’s also Shih Tzu among many other things including poodle and German Shepard. He’s a super mutt but 79.2% pug. He is SO SMART and a very polite boy. He’s watching The Isle of Dog with us right now, tilting his head and holding his minty bone in his mouth like a cigar. He’s a puppy, 9 months old.
