sooo these babies passed quarantine bought 10 received 12 but 1 didnt make it which is pretty good. theyve just started eating pellets which some of them looks thin but theyre are slowly plumping up, theyre about 3/4 of an inch to an inch long.

I got these for my breeding project for better genetics and physiological build. the reason i went with these Juveniles was too potentially raise virgin females but these are wild caught and I am well aware of fast developing males.

what do you think the chances are that these juveniles are already pregnant and how can I insure that these are infact virgins or my worst fears these already bred.

I have 4 that are about to be an half an inch and I think Im safer with those fry/juveniles. I would love to hear thoughts

I want some chocolate mollies sooo heres the cross with one of my opaque X yellow albinos (male) with a black (female). hes been successfully breeding soo expecting fry in aabout a month and a half

same thing with my tangerine project although shes a little small she was the runt of the litter shes probably like 8 months old by now but we’ll see the other male is slowly figuring out how to breed

theyre all about an inch and a half the male with the orange female will probably have a nicer sail and most likely will be my breeder for the f2 albino project

80 percent sure this is reds daughter so she will be getting backcrossed to big red. I thought he was losing his breeding drive apparently not he just needed some new blood in the block.

anyways trying to get more big reds. also ordered wild types again cuz its been 4 in a row where i dont have any luck with them this will be the last time i order these wild sailfin mollies. I ordered fry sooo if big red gets to live another generation he will have a female from that and potentially gets crossed to his offsprings from this backcross and his offsprings to the wild cross

most of my juveniles are maturing now, I had a hunch this one was going to be a male a month ago, i separated him 2 weeks ago and surely enough he turned out to be a male. now i got 2 young bucks to work with

this ones patter looks to be a marble hes marblimg looks purpleish brown i got 2 of its siblings i want to pair up with this one

he doesnt seem to mind the other babies, so i just chucked him in here eating high protein feed most of the time, but he is developing quite well. He doesnt like me though, but its okay. been noticing that his dorsal has been growing aswell but, why i dislike the lyre tail gene so much is because of its inconsistency and lopsidedness, as u can see the bottom lyretail is long and elegant but the top just refuses to grow and it bothers me

1st photo, I can def tell which female gave birth to it, but awesome nonetheless, its mother has a Lyretail which 2 of off the 3 females I have do have it. I may or may not breed it we’ll see.

2nd photo, def came from my none lyretail female, I have very very high hopes for this one but if it pops out having a lyretail it might just be something i need to breed out because the father(s) doesnt have Lyretails

3rd photo, ok so this is one of the fry that i can barely tell if it came out of my regular yellow albino female but this one have brownish spots on it

4th photo, same as 3rd photo but this one have a stronger brown patches and have this bluish iridescents
(likely coming from dad i know u cant see it im a horrible photographer)

5th photo, now its getting spicy this one came from my female that is opaque white with a lot of yellowing (i think). this ones growing some lyretails aswell but this one have a yellow body and her dorsal fin is what takes the show it has golden opaqueness and patterns.

6th photo, same with 5th but no lyretail

7th photo same as 3rd and 4th but this one have a lyretail, the kind of lyretail i hate where it looks like the fish have troubles swimming, kind of like being too heavy, it looks kind of like a if a swordtail male had 2 swords from top to bottom, i feel like a fish should swim with elegance this one just looks like its clumsy, healthy and strong and swims fine but doesnt look elegant to me, will not be breeding this one (I REFUSE)

8th photo, welp i saw it coming when it tried breeding without a gonopodium, he will be (maybe) the male thats doing most of my breeding if i dont get a male that isnt a lyretail, beautiful coloring, beautiful body, and its looking like it took well from the sail fin gene fingers crossed. I think, not 100% sure this fry came from my original male the one i lost to camallanus worms

regardless if the mothers were sailfins or not these fry i know are atleast 50% sailfins and if i get males that somewhat resembles a sailfin id be happy but i got higher hopes for f2s when it comes to the things i look for, for this project, I really cant wait till these mature out

theres a silver and black one randomly those are my runt babies, same thing with the orange with dark eyed (none albino also has 1 eye), thinking about holding onto that one see if i can get better quality versions of it. (the brown boring ones you see are half Albinos from a silver female😜)

but anyways here are the healthy juveniles that passes my criteria, strong body/frame and good sails (so far).

ive culled so many weak fry dont get me started, these are the strongest ones, ive had a lot of interesting colored ones but sadly they were weak and these are what im left with I also have other fry growing out but these fry are from Red male X yellow female, and my original females have slowed down with fry I dont know why, finally got a master test kit a few months ago and parameters seems to be great. im worried with one of my females she seems to be not gaining weight back unfortunately so she is being medicated and being heavily fed rn to see if i can get her back to breeding but i doubt it, like shes not terribly skinny but shes not as plump as before.all of my females seemed to have slowed down fry production in general so we’ll see where they go

i dont know whats actually going on but my fry are so so weak, I already have a couple of them going strong in another tank but for some reason most of my fry are getting skinnier and skinnier and they get to this state where theyre just lying on the ground wasting away, ive already tried treating them with internal parasites for this past 2 weeks and still nothing. I do have another brood just got dropped and im thinking about nuking these guys (water parameters are stable 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and nitrates, 7.5 Ph, and i havent been testing hardness cuz i know my water is liquid rock)

as for my other project (p. Veliferas) one decided to jump out of the tank likely because when my brother comes to my room they get spooked cuz he likes to slam my door but i still do have that female who has a weird vent not expecting much from her though

Bruh I just noticed this on one of my P.Velifera females she has 2 Anal fins and her butt is all the way to the side

Should I even try and breed her or should I just cull her

Big Silver male. I got him today hes from a pond. Idk what hes lineage is but I know hes probably a mutt but he resembles more of a P. Velifera

Albino Male. Hes in my retirement tank i got him because if that stunning sail. I now have him in a conditioning tank and im trying to fatten him up. trying not to burn him out

I have already take out 2.25 gallons of saltwater and added 2.25 of freshwater. Ive been taking out .5 gallons every 8 hours and theyre looking fantastic. They are eating aswell I offered them Vibra Bites not too long ago and they got an appetite. I think their transition is going well

thought id share my experience for new people or people who wants to try out some fish food.

Lets get the Elephant out the room

Fenbendazole Flakes and Antiparasitic Flakes = For Quarantine ONLY. do not try and feed it to them as a staple. YOUR FISH WILL GET SKINNY (everytime i feed these to fish who i suspect have internal parasites they tend to get skinny but regain their weight after treatment.

Fancy Guppy by Hikari = I feed this to fish who needs to gain weight or Molly females who just gave birth/Fry (once big enough). 50% protein helps with recovery and helps them gain more weight. I wouldnt recommend this as a staple just because it is tiny and it could get very messy. 9/10

Magic Small Fish feed by Aquarium Co-op = man these are great for fry this is the reason why my fry are growing very quickly with 55% protein cant beat it this is my fry staple (Obv not better than bbs). 10/10

Bug Bites Tropical formula = this is a food I offer to shy fish it tends to sink very quickly this food helps entice skittish fish especially if a molly fish is hiding (its watching you it just doesnt want to come out). Its a very niche fish food and i feel like theres better options (great supplement food).8/10

Easy Community Floating pellets by Aquarium Co-op = Another fantastic food, When I was raising my Silver fry this was the staple but later on opted to magic fish feed. this stuff takes awhile to sink. this is the food that i usually medicate with (when i didnt have medicated fish food). I would soak this in with whatever medications with garlic and it would do the trick. this was the food I was using to combat Camallanus worms soaked in levamisole. i wouldnt recommend it as a staple because when i was using it as a staple for my silver fry i had to retrain them back on looking for food everywhere. this food will make your fish think that food is always at the top if used as a staple. 9/10

New Life Spectrum Tropical pellets = I have heard a lot of good stuff about this fish food but when it comes to my mollies they are very underwhelming. most of my fish wont eat this but the ones that do usually just eats them and they have a “meh” reaction. they dont necessarily go crazy for this but just like the Bug Bites

theres so much good stuff in this fish food but my fish just dont eat them (great supplement food). 8/10

Micro Pellets by Hikari = I prefer this than the micro wafers that Hikari also carry, Just because this fish food makes the fish color Pop and its easy for the fish to eat it (be careful ive overfed fish with this fish food before). 8/10

Micro Wafers by Hikari = Hikari makes a lot of good fish food but this fish food is a miss for me. Although my fish eats it eventually, Its hard for them to eat it because of their mouth shape they just have a hard time with it just like New Life Spectrum Tropical pellets, could work better in a community set up if your mollies are very aggressive with food. this fish food needs to get soften up by the water before my molly tries to even eat it. 7.5/10

Vibra Bites by Hikari = Also heard the hype with this fish food and my fish absolutely adores this. when Im lazy and I dont want to thaw some frozen food i chuck these in and let it do its thing. Now this food is also amazing for shy fish this is one of the fish food i offer to new fish after theyve been to the medicated fish food. would not recommend as a staple. simply for the reason that this fish food is shaped like a worm and youre fish might not take anymore fish food. 8.5/10

Tetra Algae wafers = the tetra algae wafers in my opinion does its job but theres better options when it comes to Algae wafers my fish gets uninterested after a while and ive never had this issue with a different brand it does its job i guess as a supplement food. 7/10

sinking wafers by hikari = I dont really know why i have this food but I use it with the Algae wafers as a treat and Variety. Ive had mollies live off of this for a week as an experiment and my mollies got very skinny. but what was i expecting when it wasnt for mollies in the first place so i do admit its my fault but they love grazing on it. 7.5/10

Reef Nutrition TDO = I will be honest this is my staple. I was picking out new fish food to try out in my lfs and i came across these. at first i thought i was just going to use it as a supplement food. 50% protein, its for marine fish (REEF NUTRITION with my naivete at work), its intended for corals whatever right. right? anyways this fish food is packed with Algae matter and some other goodies sounds like a match made in heaven for my omnivore mollies and my fish go absolutely bonkers for this fish food, its high in protein and it helps with their color and have a lot of plant matter? sold. 10/10

In conclusion always try and get a variety of fish food because just like us (even though my fish eats better than me😭) you never know what vitamins our fish are lacking so I truely encourage everyone to have a good food cabinet. I hope this helped or atleast gave you an idea of what to feed. thanks for reading

i didnt pick her up because she looked too balloon for my liking and plus i went in there for Reef Salt. You have to look very closely though because I almost missed her myself and also i might go back and take her if I cant sleep tonight. But all of my lfs sells these and ive found 2 so far 3 months apart so not particularly common.

Note: if you get something like her expect none of her fry to be albino she only exist because to my knowledge (according to my cousin who breeds these balloon mollies) they usually cross albinos to strengthen the platinum line so theres albino genetics but its very thin and sometimes you get fish like her that comes out albino but beautiful fish nonetheless (i had to contain the urge to bring home fish when i have 100s of fry)

bruh i was expecting silver fish im not going to lie, looks like im scrapping this project cuz aint no way, silver females were virgins soo these are heterozygous albinos.

I was expecting silvers from this pairing. seriously how much hidden genetics do these fish carry. my hypothesis was correct then, I had a hunch that breeders mixes different varieties from time to time to increase the gene pool. One interesting thought that i had.

but it got me thinking since Silver is closest to the wild type colors and i got some black fish with this pairing and black is supposed to be recessive to wild and co dominant with silver. I have another hunch but i have no evidence supporting my hunch (as of yet).

my hunch is chocolate albino mollies. so ive been thinking i dont know the origins of these yellow/gold albinos but it got me thinking that maybe they were derived from the chocolate mollies (if my hunch is correct: Chocolate albinos probably came from the black molly line and later on created this yellow/golden line today with a little bit of creamsicle/yellow line)

I have no supporting evidence towards this claim but what i could show is what ive gotten from this pairing that led me to think this way. ive also noticed fry that looks like these in my mutts but i never really thought much about them until now (most males in that tank are albinos)

idk what im going to do with these fry idk if i should cull them or just keep one or 2 just like what i did with the platinum female that gave me some weird fry also

pic 1: Ive never mentioned her cuz she was a top secret file. but i feel like its her time to shine when ive added her to the breeding tank (shes with my red male). Anyways long story short my local fish store is the GOAT the GOAT

pic 2: is the fry that came out of my platinum female that ive held on (1 out of 2), i cant seem to tell if its going to be a marble or its going to keep that brown on the body with opaque fins

pic 3: now heres where it gets interesting this is siblings to pic 2 (2 out of 2), I haven’t planned ahead and i lowkey want to start a line with this ones, it reminds me of copper bettas🤣.

who knew i have so much gene pool in 3 strains. ill take more photos when they get a bit larger fry were born on april 12 i believe not sure but theyre only 2 weeks old is already larger than some of my 2 month old albino fry😔. Ive always knew these albinos have like growth issues, but thats why those velifera females will be crossed so fingers crossed (every pun intended). sorry for the bad photos i am no photographer nor have the patience to do fish modeling when all these babies are this tiny

anyways Most of my fry looks like these two or something in between the two

i originally thought they would inherit their mothers opaque ness but they dont. however they are not quite transluscent like their father. so it is a case of incomplete dominance.

I forgot to mention that theres some fry that do have spots either brown or orange on them like their mother

im exited to do backcrosses and inbreeding these fish as of right now i can only do a backcross to an albino sailfin male (red male). but we’ll see in a couple of months to see what these fry fully matures to

at this point ive lost track who gave birth to who so if you are interested on what the parents looked like just go to my previous post but sadly i lost their dad so we’ll be using the red male to backcross if you even consider it as a backcross. (results should be relatively the same regardless this way i can avoid inbreeding but i will be inbreeding to get fish that looks like their mother)
