Anyone interested in super-early-pre-alpha testing a Unity remake?
I am looking for anyone with some UO knowledge to help find bugs, quirks, and UX or game mechanic improvement suggestions for this Unity remake project. This project is still currently in very early stages, but is functional today and currently running on a dedicated server. Like all other emulators or free shards out there, it requires that clients have an installation of the classic UO client from https://uo.com/client-download/ for the data files (i.e. map) that this project uses for now. Let me know if any of you are interested in helping out with any amount of testing/qa type stuff via Discord for download link + setup instructions: https://discord.gg/SkxPKzZB (this link expires in 1 week or after 25 users). The test group will stay small at this stage because of how early into development this is, but I may increase numbers as things get smoothed out and if interest is there.
But why Unity?
I'm familiar with the engine and it allows for much easier modernization of various features compared to other custom server/clients out there, at least in my opinion. One random example - the spellbook below throws up a convenient tooltip on hover with a keybind mapping button next to each spell (note: this is far from having gone through any polish stages and is still very "rough draft").
That said - tons of respect and appreciation to all the developers out there that took any part in UOX, ServUO, RunUO, ClassicUO, or any of the others out there. Those resources are invaluable and help immensely with these kind of hobby projects.
And for transparency, though irrelevant IMO and TBH should be expected at this point, yes - AI is used in the development process.
Last but not least, this is a side project. I have a full time job in IT, so this won't be production ready "by the end of the week". Just a casual hobby/side project for my inner nerd and for the nostalgia feels.
Thanks for reading!
