are hunter professors helpful with prospective transfers?

title. i'm hoping to transfer out of hunter into a top 25 school. i didn't get my intended results after applying in high school, but i've secured internships that will really help my app stick out and solidify my narrative. the only thing i'm concerned about is rec letters.

has anyone had experience asking professors for rec letters to transfer out? if so, were they supportive? i hear that i shouldn't ask my macaulay professors because they can be pretty possessive about the program. i also know my sister struggled with vindictive professors at a private nyc college.

if there are any vindictive professors, who should i watch out for?

i just hope that my professors will understand that everyone has different priorities academically and that they will write a letter that truly represents me as a student. thank you for the read and wish me luck!!

thoughts on HPSSSM & LPE?

hi everyone! i'm heavily considering transferring to uchicago as i'm not rlly happy w my current institution and feel like uchicago might be worth my TED. before heavily considering it tho, i wanted to ask about two departments: history, philosophy, and social studies of science and medicine, and law & political economy.

for context, i'm hoping to work in medicine and public health policy. i'm curious about what these programs are like for pre-meds and whether students in these programs are generally satisfied with the quality of instruction. one of my biggest concerns with top schools is whether the professors are actually passionate about teaching, or if they're just in it for the research. if anyone can speak to this, pls lmk!!

on that note, is it easy for undergrads to get involved with research in these departments and the med school?

and finally (lol), are there ample high-quality academic resources for students (i.e. tutors, study groups, office hours)? ik uchicago is notorious for its grade deflation, so i'd like to have a support system in that case.

thanks for the read and best of luck to everyone!!

should i transfer to uchicago as a pre med?

context: i'd apply to major in history, philosophy, and social studies of science and medicine with a minor in law and political economy. i'm very interested in the humanities and policy aspects of healthcare and want to attend a university with robust research and experiential opportunities in those particular areas. i intend on applying to top MD-MPH programs (ivies, hopkins, grossman, duke, georgetown, etc).

if anyone has experience with uchicago, my main concerns are:

  1. what extent of academic support is there? the school i'll be attending hires students who got an A+ in a course as tutors for that particular subject, and i'm wondering if uchicago offers similar accessibility for free.
  2. what's the quality of instruction like? are professors mainly there just for research or are they truly passionate about and good at teaching?
  3. what's the research infrastructure like? do students have easy access to research at the med school, IOP, etc? are they flexible to students' schedules?

i don't really like the school i'll be attending first year but i think i can easily get a 4.0 there while continuing to do public health research. i didn't apply to uchicago but realized it may actually be a great school for me, so i'm considering applying transfer (maybe even TED)!

if anyone knows of any other top schools that are transfer friendly and seem like good fits for me, please let me know! i'm also highly considering georgetown, cornell, and columbia.
