I'm chopping a 78 xs650. Running points and stock stator and a reg/rec. Bought it stock and rewired it. I can start it and it will run for about 5 minutes and then the lights get very dim and the bike dies and I can't start again unless I jump it or leave it for a while. Tested my stator and it checks out. Battery is new but jumps to 17 volts with a throttle blip. Yesterday with just the ignition on the reg rec started smoking. I think all my wiring is correct. No blown Fuses and I checked all the connections. Was it just my reg rec that was bad and finally took a big shit yesterday when it started smoking or is it more likely to be the wiring that I fucked up somewhere. It's kick only by the way so I only have like 4 wires.
