Conveyor belt caught my hand at work and someone at the hospital mentioned a third party claim. is that actually thing sep from comp?

Six weeks out from a conveyor belt malfunction at the warehouse. Three broken fingers, tendon damage, surgery. Surgeon is not optimistic about full range of motion coming back.

TD is covering 60 percent of my wages and the machine had been flagged for maintenance for months before this happened. My coworker says the logs back that up but I haven't been able to see them.

Someone mentioned before I left the hospital that I might be able to go after the manufacturer or the maintenance contractor separately from comp. I didn't follow up, I was still pretty out of it. Does a personal injury attorney handle that or does my comp attorney take care of it?
