How hummingbirds sound in slow motion 😳

Broad-tailed hummingbird at 0.1x speed! (Volume UP)

It’s still hard to count his wingbeats, but you can hear them flapping distinctly! But also, how they sound??!!! I’m getting sonar/laser beams 😆
*lil tongue at around 13.5 seconds*

Hummingbirds perceive time differently, processing sensory information much faster than we do. I love looking at them in slow-mo to really be able to break down and see all of their movements.

(Sorry for video caption, from my social)

The rare Calliope!

After being away for a couple weeks, I put the feeders out and hummers were right back to it. The first one I saw when I looked out the window was our elusive Calliope! What a welcome home 🥰

A rare sighting, we had one last year- very possibly the same little guy.

Calliopes are the smallest bird in North America and the smallest long-distance avian migrant in the world!

Our elusive Black-chinned!

That purple gorget! You’ll catch a glimpse towards the end.

This is the longest I’ve ever been able to catch him feeding, and the best video I’ve ever been able to capture! Sharing the feeder with our main residents, Broad-tailed.

It’s that time of year! (Hummingbird madness) 🥰

*Sound on* Gosh, these little cuties bring me the most joy. I look forward to this each year, and it’s only just getting started! Wait for the crazy single feeder close up at the end 😆

They empty my 3 feeders daily, and I scrub them clean and fill them with fresh 1:4 sugar and water nectar each day. I also have a bunch of flowers not shown in these clips. It’s a full time job, which I cherish with every ounce of my being!
