Healing

How’s my healing looking? This was taken 2 weeks post op, it looks and feels like I’m a reptile shedding my skin and I don’t love it! I’ll be 3 weeks post op tomorrow and the itching is driving me insane. I had ORIF for a trimalleolar fracture as well as a displaced ankle that was reset in the ER the night of injury. Also, could anyone tell me if they know what those circular spots on the inside of the ankle are? My dr didn’t tell me and I forgot to ask haha

Timeline: injury date : 5/27
Surgery: 6/15 (delayed due to insurance reasons)
Pictures taken: 6/28

Weight bearing?

When did everyone start weight bearing? My orthopedic doctor wants me to wait until my 6 week appointment, he’s not the same dr who did surgery but that’s a long story. But I am so so tired of not being able to walk and I’m only in pain sometimes, could I start partial weight bearing before 6 weeks? Is this something to call and ask about? Im in a boot with stitches removed. Im 2 weeks post op from ORIF for trimalleolar fracture of my right ankle

Post op

Hey guys! I go for my 2 week post op tomorrow (technically I’ll only be 11 days post op) I’m getting my splint taken off and stitches out after right ankle ORIF after a trimalleolar fracture.

I was wondering if there’s any specific questions I should ask? I plan on asking about when I can start PT and weight bearing, I’m 21 weeks pregnant and I want to know if anyone else has been in the same boat? Do I need to worry about soaking my ankle past when I start PT ( I plan on having a water birth) I know a lot of people do water PT, would that be a good option here? I’ve done PT before as I had a surgery on my left knee when I was 13 so I’m kind of familiar.

Pain

I had my ORIF yesterday 6/15 for a trimalleolar break and my nerve block finally wore off. I am in the WORST pain I’ve ever felt in my life (even worse than when I actually broke my ankle) and my orthopedic surgeon didn’t prescribe anything for pain for after surgery 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve literally only spoken like 5 words to this man, he’s so ignorant and I didn’t get to ask him any questions before surgery, he didnt stop in to see how I was after surgery and at my first appointment he stayed long enough just to tell me I needed surgery and to schedule it with his coordinator. Im so done with this orthopedic doctor. I can’t get through to anyone at his clinic to get some pain meds to get an ounce of relief!! Im so beyond upset right now, does anyone have any advice or experience like this ???

Update! I got through to my orthopedics office after calling them 10+ times and got my meds ordered. The only issue is I was told that they were ordered at 2 o’clock this afternoon and they weren’t actually ordered until 415. I had called them around 420 and she let me know that they were ordered five minutes before I called. This office has pissed me off so bad, if anyone is in Texas, stay clear of Texas orthopedics. Specially dr Schultz. He was very rude when he found out I didn’t have insurance at my first appointment and basically dismissed me. Didn’t come in before or after surgery to talk to me and find out if I had any questions etc and I feel I was discriminated against for not having insurance even though I was pending Medicaid at the first appointment. I’m looking for a new orthopedic around me! Thank you everybody for your recommendations and advice

Trimalleolar ORIF

Hey guys! This is my 2nd or 3rd post here but I need some advice! I have surgery (20 days post injury) this Monday 6/15 for an ORIF on my trimalleolar TIB/FIB fracture! Im also going to be 20 weeks pregnant at the time of surgery, they’re putting me under general anesthesia and im assuming I’ll be getting a nerve block as well. What can I expect post-op, within the first month? My dr spent maybe 5 minutes with me just to tell me I need surgery and since I didn’t have insurance at the time of the appointment it felt like he didn’t care. I have since gotten insurance and still haven’t actually talked to my surgeon, I had a nurse tell me over the phone some things I can expect but i want real advice and stories. Im very nervous about going under general anesthesia even though I’ve had it before, I have a really hard time waking up from it so that worries me. Anyways, rant over thank you for listening and TYIA for any advice/ stories !

Feeling discouraged

Basically what the title says. I am a rather healthy 19 year old(20 in 9 days) female, currently 18 almost 19 weeks pregnant and I broke 3 bones in my ankle as well as my fibula a little over a week ago. I have been staying at my in laws house as my RV is too small to navigate and my dogs are too hyper, my husband isn’t able to sleep at my in laws house with me because someone needs to be home with our dogs. I depend on everyone else to do everything for me and previously I was so independent. I feel like my life has been taken away from me and that sounds really selfish to type out but it feels like it’ll never get better. I had my ortho consult on Thursday and they want me to do surgery ASAP but I don’t have insurance and they won’t even look at my case for 2 more weeks, I don’t know what to do anymore. I can’t afford to pay out of pocket or even do a payment plan. Can anyone share their success stories etc to maybe help me feel a little bit better ?

Possible surgery needing advice!

Hey yall! I broke my right TIB/FIB as well as a bone in my ankle maybe even 2? I haven’t seen the ortho yet this is just what they told me after some scans (they did show me the scans but didn’t explain what I was looking at and didn’t allow me to take a picture or give me copies?) I’m 18 1/2 weeks pregnant and I go for my first consultation with the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow! Im nervous as to what to expect, I really really don’t want surgery but I was told that’s likely inevitable, my TIB/FIB fracture is healing pretty good according to the scans I got 3 days ago (5 days after the initial break) I was told the splint I have is doing really well for the leg fracture but my ankle is still really bad. I guess I’m just looking for advice/ anyone in a similar situation. Im worried about the surgery with me being pregnant and all but I’m really just wanting this to all be over.
