What I did on the 4th.

Firwood has a OWI emphasis patrol every year on the 4th of July. I got 6, all Class C felony's as nobody was injured this year. The last car wasn't cited for anything because of the crash (And I was in the middle of a stop so I didn't have a speed anyway.) so parks and rec. will take care of any charges for this one if necessary.

Please don't drink and drive people. It's never worth it.

Welfare check turned into, well, the slowest pursuit I've ever been in (with an actual car anyway. I've chased a lawnmower before.)

The sheriff promoted me to a sergeant this morning. The previous sergeant was promoted to lieutenant of the entire traffic division, so I am to head up the patrol division (our term for interceptors). Then I headed off do a welfare check u/RichProgrammer9820 called in.

The house was creepy, but otherwise empty. A few raccoons, drug's, paraphernalia, a high raccoon, sleeping bags, and other things. It was fairly normal, though the drugs were definitely new. We cleared them the last time we cleared the place, so somebody else is using it as a hide-out. As we were leaving, I saw a Stambecco turning around in the swamp. I decided to stop them and see why they were at the house. Technically they're trespassing on Water Management property at the moment.

Caught up to them, but of course they didn't stop. The chase was slow, over a bridge, and mostly off-road. Thankfully, the Stambecco is so slow it allowed all my backup to arrive. The TVI (Tactical Vehicle Intervention or PIT maneuver), so I was gently reminded that I had authority to tell the others to block them in and such. The box in was successful and the suspect surrendered as soon as we pulled our weapon out (SOP for felony stops). Anyway, charges.

  • Suspect 1 (Driver)
    • Failure to stop [Class E Misdemeanor]
    • Fleeing and Eluding [Class C Felony]
    • Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs [Class B Felony]
    • Trafficking of Schedule X Drugs [Class C Felony]
    • Agg Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs (300+ Pills) [Class A Felony]
    • Possession of Paraphernalia [Class E Misdemeanor]
  • Suspect 2 (Passenger)
    • Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs [Class B Felony]
    • Trafficking of Schedule X Drugs [Class C Felony]
    • Trafficking of Schedule Y Drugs [Class D Misdemeanor]
    • Trafficking of Schedule Z Drugs [Class D Misdemeanor]
    • Agg Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs (300+ Pills) [Class A Felony]
    • Possession of Paraphernalia [Class E Misdemeanor]

The Paraphernalia found in the house is going to be seized and tested. If DNA found on it matches the paraphernalia found in the Stambecco, then those two will face additional drug trafficking and possession charges. We also dropped the trespassing charges in light of, well the several years in jail these two will likely be facing anyway.

Burglary suspect apprehended.

Unit 4-38 responded to a silent alarm last night. According to her report, she noticed the door was broken and made entry. She said that the house looked like the crime scene photos from our suspect we were looking for. She spotted the suspect hiding in the bottom floor's bathroom closet. He raised a gun to her and she retreated to the front screaming for back up. I responded as quick as I could. Strangely, no shots were fired between the two of them. Our 4-38 had retreated to her car and explained what she saw over the radio. The detective said he would be there ASAP. I arrived on scene not to long after this exchange. I didn't really have to do much, just make sure they guy doesn't run out of the house. Got my shield and 40mm just in case. The standoff only lasted a few minutes before SWAT and the detective showed up. SWAT made entry and presumably scared our suspect. His pant's were kind of wet coming out of the house in handcuffs.

You can't predict stupid I guess. He had every indication we were searching for him and still tripped a silent alarm trying to steal from somebody's house. Thankfully, there was minimal property damage, SWAT tends not to use much discretion. Hopefully this serial burglary is finally put to an end in quiet Firwood. Anyway, Charges:

  • Property Theft valued over $10,000 (3 counts) [Class C Felony]
  • Property Theft valued between $500 and $10,000 (15 counts) [Class D Misdemeanor]
  • Property Theft of a firearm [Class B Felony]
  • Burglary - Dwelling Modifier (18 counts) [Class B Felony]
  • Attempted Burglary with deadly weapon (1 count) [Class A Felony]
  • Agg Criminal Trespass (19 counts) [Class C Felony]

The Judge didn't set a bail amount as of the release of this report.

High speed pursuit yesterday. Bruckell Ravix super car. Could barely keep up. Thank god for spike strips and radios.

74 apparently was in town when a car rushed by at 50mph (20 over). 10-93 and 74 engaged in a pursuit. It sped off. Fast. Was headed my direction. I was asked to assist as I had the faster car. A perfect place to wait was an abandoned car scene where one of the roads were blocked off for investigation. A Belasco Rentals van was stolen from the west coast and abandoned in Firwood. Strange. The car drove by at speed and I engaged in the pursuit. They didn't pull over, but I guess my lights or something spooked them, as they lost control of their super car for a few seconds. 74 predicted where this guy was going perfectly and asked for the road to be closed and spikes to get set up at the end of one of the bridges. Thankfully, there really aren't too many roads that connect to each other in county. 20 (our Kodiak) managed to get in position and got good hit with his spike strips. With two flat tires, he crashed into a barrier and spun. Gave up soon after.

Charges:

  • Fleeing and Eluding [Class C Felony]
  • Driving to Endanger[Class E Misdemeanor]

After getting our driver to 74 (who took 20 min to get to the scene of the arrest), I headed back to the station to fill out the use of force and vehicle damage report, again. The detective called for the SWAT team and wanted a patrol officer at the old house on the hill. Managed to get a warrant for entry. He suspected our burglar was hiding out their. The family who owns the house wasn't responding to calls, and nobody lives there permanently. I guess the old couple died a few years back, and their kids don't know what to do with it. They come back every once and a while to clean it up, but it's been a few years. Turn's out, we found some stolen property those kids reported a while back at the bottom of the river. Unfortunately, our suspect wasn't there, but we found a bunch of stolen property inside, mostly from local stores. We think he is shoplifting now. The detective will check security cameras today.

An interesting evening.

Firwood is usually a fairly boring place, so today was... unexpected. The detective managed to get an off-road vehicle that can hold 4 people so we can send the dive team down to the river just outside of town. Apparently, somebody saw our burglary suspect dumping something into the river in a difficult to reach place, so he wanted to get the dive team down there and see if there was any evidence down there. I was asked help since I was already invested in the case. While the dive team was getting ready, 54 radioed letting dispatch know that a person of interest was involved in an incident in town. They were being transported to the hospital and the detective wanted me to head over with the ambulance and see if we could get a positive ID or some information.

The helicopter crew was 30min from taking off so they just drove the entire way. Nearest hospital to Firwood is 30min at ~80 mph anyway. The EMT's managed to revive the kid and the ER got him to a point where we could talk and so his family could get to the hospital. Turns out our person of interest wasn't the suspect, but was a good friend of theirs. They told me they were laying low somewhere in town, but they weren't sure where. His parent's showed up so I left them alone to contact the detective. The nursing staff told me he passed, and being the primary in the incident, there were no charges filed. The Sheriff got me a room at a hotel near by so I didn't' have to drive back since I was waiting at the hospital for a few hours at that point. I took the day off today, went to the therapist, and spent the rest of the day with my girlfriend.

The dive team did find some things the detective is going to check on today, so it that was a big success too.

  • Breaking and Entering (7 counts) [Class B Felony]

Strange traffic stop today.

Pulled over a black van today. The driver said something "big" was going to happen soon. Took the speeding ticket without complaint. They said they slept late and how that was no excuse, then droned on and on about some kind of tech company that's going to revolutionize the internet or whatever. Are all California types like this? It reminded me that township got a new sanitization worker from California. Thought I should head back and harass them a bit. It's not everyday we get somebody new in town. Thanks u/RichProgrammer9820 for being a good sport. Good luck!

Not much happening in Firwood, but managed to compile this.

Last week or so wasn't very interesting around town, at least in my line of work. We even had fewer fires than normal. Lots of getting lost cats and escorting old ladies across the street for me. I did manage to compile a few interesting things, thought none really too interesting happened in these ether.

Incident one: No arrests, though a gas leak was a nice change of pace.

Incident two: Kids shoplifting is nothing new, but a few boxes of candy is new. I guess they just grabbed them off the shelves and ran. Remember kids, don't steal things with a car covered in cardboard. No arrests here ether, but the driver was fined.

Incident three: Another officer lit up a likely drunk driver, who immediately crashed attempting to pull over. Then got out and ran. I was asked to head them off, so I drove around the wood line and found him stumbling out of the woods. Made the arrest and brought him back for the initial officer to process him. Charged with OUI -second offence- [Class D Misdemeanor].

Finally got back to work. My suspension was longer than expected because they needed to fix my car. Again.

Got my car back and I'm back on patrol! My suspension was longer than expected, but they needed to get my car out of paint and have the new windshield fitted. We also got a Vivace rally car from a drug bust the judge ordered off the road. Just needed to wrap it, fit a PIT bar and emergency lights. The Sunburst was effected by the ECU issues a while back and never really got fixed. It's in the shop, but who knows when they'll get around to it.

Anyway, my first pull over (well major one, stopped two speeders before this one) that morning was my girlfriend's best friend. She was drinking all night and decided to drive home. She clearly got lost as she was driving around in the back country. Crashed into a tree as soon as I lit her up. I checked in with other units and no reported hit-and-runs so that a blessing.

Next interesting one was a car that exited the roadway the previous evening. The detective was checking things out and needed help. I was near by and he called 30 for an off road search. I had to take pictures and bag evidence, though it turns out the owner was just tired and fell asleep. He got scared and stumbled home. The detective caught up to him after we had the car towed.

Charges for suspect one:

  • Operating under the influence (5th time) [Felony]
  • Driving with license suspended (OUI modifier) [Misdemeanor]

She will be getting jail time for this one, the judge probably had enough of her. Her parents would have paid bail, so I just let her go home. Hopefully she goes to court.

No charges for the other traffic incident, but fined for damage to property. It was private land.
