Roadtrip range discrepancy
I’m posting to see if anyone can help me reconcile a discrepancy I had in a recent roadtrip. I drove about 230 miles round-trip. 130 up to a charger, picked up my daughter from grandma, and 130 back home. Same day, same interstate, I took about a 10min charge and headed back home.
Details:
On my drive north, I left with 100% battery and arrived with 47%. (53% used). Computer said about 350Wh/mi
I charged from 47% up to 80% at the stop
On my drive south, l left with 80% battery and arrived back home with 12% (68% used). Computer said about 450Wh/mi
Conditions:
-Used FSD nearly 100% of the entire drive.
-Sunny, 80° day
-No elevation change
-Very little to no wind to speak of. However, I was traveling North/South, so an east/west wind no matter how small should impact the same.
I know identical drives will never be identical usage but 53% battery usage to 68% is nearly a 30% increase. Why?
Is the “top end” of the battery more efficient?
One last thing: When I left the charger to return home, it correctly projected arrival at 12%. I thought it was crazy and I “beat” that number comfortably. So, the car knows something I don’t. Just trying to figure out what that is.
