A bit different from the usual fare but Moran is solid.

To keep it brief, I'd like to avoid heavily citing Chomsky for the obvious reasons but don't have a good alternative source. Problem is the citations I already have from Failed States are many, specific, and baked in so any replacements are also going to have to be real specific, covering as many of the same themes as possible:

○ Critique of The War On Terror written at the time, especially once the WMD narrative had clearly fallen apart (Failed States was 2006)

○ Rising militarism and surveillance ("emergency" powers and lack of change from the Cold War)

○ The fake ways US foreign policy justifies enemies and allies (fighting terrorism, communism, supporting democracy)

○ Erosion of American Democracy (personality politics, wealth inequality, party dominance)

I know Manufacturing Consent has a good alternative in Inventing Reality by Parenti and I'd like the find the same for Failed States if anyone has one. Thank you.

The Anarchist Black Army is pretty well known but I'm curious about the civilian-side organizing the Ukrainian Anarchists got up to.

The basic idea is the usual worker/peasant soviet but with party members of any political party banned to prevent the partisanship and capture happening in Russian soviets. How did they work? How well did they work? How'd Anarchism influence them? Etc.
