Drake and Josh's first on-screen appearance together (Double Dare 2000)
The first time Drake and Josh appeared on a series together was on the game show Double Dare 2000; both were 13 years old. This was before Josh joined The Amanda Show. Shoutout to Nancy Sullivan for participating with a bunch of kids on Team Amanda, despite already being in her 30s at the time.
Fun fact: one of the questions for Team Amanda was "Name the woman who lopped Samson's locks?," which Drake immediately knew the answer to, since his mother was very a religious Christian whom would've imparted biblical knowledge onto him from a young age. He quickly told his teammates the answer (Delilah) and they won the $50 question.
Drake (left) and Ron Melendez (right) in the movie Drifting School (1995). I feel extremely sad & angry how Ron could support Brian Peck later.
Ron Melendez was 22 when he worked with an 8 year old Drake, and played the role of Drake's older cousin in the movie. How could he, after working with this little boy, go on to see the same kid get groomed by Brian Peck years later, and think nothing of it? In his letter of support for Brian, Ron said he was aware of Brian integrating himself into Drake's life, and how he also rented a room from Brian during the time of Drake's abuse. It's crazy to me how he didn't notice anything weird! And to say "it was not his (Brian's) mistake alone,"???? As if Drake wanted it and tempted Brian??? I just can't help but feel so so sad and angry at this. Drake was just a kid and Ron KNEW that. And to think he met Drake when he was an even younger kid...
Drake recently met with a fan
Mods can take this down if it's not appropriate. But I just wanted to inform people that Drake met a fan and her mom yesterday. Glad to know that he's safe and interacting with fans.
It's probably not intentional, but could Drake's "dumbness" actually be a developmental disorder in-universe?
Obviously, Drake probably wasn't intentionally written to have a neurodevelopmental condition since the show is just a fun comedy about teenaged boys doing teenaged things. But within the show itself, could the character plausibly have something like ADHD or learning difficulties? Drake is kinda childish, has child-like interests (candy), gets easily distracted, can't focus when it comes to studying, and doesn't know things people his age should (how to pronounce "America" and "cone", what a sibling is, etc.). His mom also makes him go to counseling, which is curious.
On the other hand, when he's actually interested in something, he can put in the effort to be good at it. For example, Josh was able to teach Drake through music when he couldn't do it via regular means like books and theory. And Drake is passionate about music so he's good at playing the guitar and writing songs too; almost like a hyperfixation (common in individuals with ADHD). Another example is in the Demonator episode when he had the mental arithmetic skills to calculate the exact time he and Josh needed to get home before their parents, only because he deemed it important enough. So Drake isn't actually "dumb", he just learns differently than his peers and can be smart when he wants to.
I remembered this video of someone exploring a vacant Bohemian Grove and decided to watch it again. What I don't remember is this part where Josh Peck's name is on this whiteboard in the kitchen. Is this another Josh Peck and not the one we know of? The names have ages listed next to them and it seems like either the number 28 or 38 is beside his (38 would be close to Josh's age at the time this was filmed).
This does not mean I think Josh is a bad person or anything; Bohemian Grove is just an elite men's club of sorts. Mostly. I just find it curious and a little surprising. It would also make for a pretty hilarious plot to a Drake and Josh episode now that I think about it.
I was just re-watching some clips of Ultimate Spider-Man, and I think Drake did a great job as Peter Parker. In fact, when the show first aired years ago, I couldn't even tell that it was him (I had to really listen because he sounds very similar to another popular VA). While a number of Spidey fans complained about his voice at the time, I'm seeing more and more warm up to it now. Quite a lot of them have also said he was their Spiderman growing up, which is really cool.
I think Drake just has a naturally young-sounding voice. It fits animated characters very well (especially teenaged ones). I was thinking maybe he could try getting into voice acting more if he doesn't plan on going back to physical acting any time soon; it might be less stressful and he would improve with each subsequent role. He could also work remotely since he travels to Mexico a lot and lives in Florida. I can see Drake voicing characters in more games (eg. Hoyoverse HAHAH), anime, and cartoons.
Actors pivoting from TV and film to voice acting/dubbing is pretty common, so I'd love it if Drake ever decides to go back to voice work. What are you guys' thoughts?
