Can someone explain how the galactic (republic) senate and senators work and how it was flawed, and please suggest how it could improve.

We know, there are roughly 1,024 pods in the galactic senate, planets and systems are ordered into sectors, which are represented by 1 senator, for example Padme represented the chommell sector (36 planets), Naboo was the most prosperous planet in that sector and Bail Organa represented the Alderaan sector (5 planets). There were 1.5-1.3 million planets represented by the republic. The delegation of 2,000 was signed by 2,000 fully fledged senators, however there are only 1,024 pods, meant to be 1 pod per sector (and therefore 1 pod per fully fledged senator, (and their advisors and team). How can it represent all these sectors, when the delegation was a minority, meaning there must be so many more senators (10,000-50,000 range), how are all sectors represented and how do they all vote? Futhermore, how could it improve, we all know it was corrupt by the formation of the first galactic empire in 19 BBY, an example is how they would send senators in at a young age so they couldn't be corrupted (padme at 18 and mon mothma at 16), how could it improve, even how could it actually restructure to destroy corruption and actually make the republic do what it "stood" for.

This isn't a question, I am asking how the galactic senate functioned with representation and I want to know how it could improve.
