Karuppu x Vijay
I've been seeing lots of posts saying "Karuppu is a vijay movie without vijay" kind of posts and comments vehemently opposing this claim insisting that vijay could never pull off that role. I agree that among their contemporaries, suriya and vikram are the most versatile actors but I completely disagree with the fact that vijay is a mediocre actor. My take is that Vijay didn't choose unique scripts but that doesn't mean that he's not capable of delivering. There is not one role which vijay has taken up n done poorly. In theri in itself, I enjoyed the shades of Vijayakumar/joseph kuruvilla/"ghost vijay". The villain character in azhagiya tamizh magan was over the top but ig that's what they were aiming for. Hell, I even enjoyed the character sanjay in goat. Karthi, mersal, the list goes on. There are actors who get overshadowed by the comedian in their own movies and the comedian has to carry the movie which is definitely not the case with vijay. Keeping in mind vetrimaran and the tiny Thirupachi vadham portion, i would have loved to see vijay in karuppu. In conclusion, does Vijay's script selection follow a strict formula? Yes. But does that mean he can't act? Definitely not.
