I want to start a writers group.
Hey all, I've been thinking about doing this for awhile. Then today I heard Dave Eggers on a podcast, talk about how much more fun it is to create together and he gets feedback from witer friends all the time. So I'm taking the step forward. I know it would be good for my growth as a writer and for my soul to have to have a social outlet with other writers. So... how to do this?
I'm thinking 4-8 of us meet once or twice a month at a coffee shop like Moon River downtown Melbourne. We gather for an hour or two and each read what we've been working on. Then we give "loving" critique of each other's work. I want honest criticism but I want encouragement too, I want to leave these meetings pumped up to continue writing. I want to give that to others too!
I published my first book, a memoir, on KDP last year and I'm currently outlining a historical fiction novel.
If you're interested in creating a group with me, send a DM. I'm 38M and I'd like to find writers within 20 years of my age.
Please tell me a little about yourself and name 3 of your favorite books in the comments or in the dm and we can begin to sort out if we would be a good fit. I'll go first.
I live in Palm Bay, a husband and father to 3 girls, I'm a handyman and contractor by day and musician by night and I try to get my writing in between day and night.
All over but the Shoutin -Rick Bragg
The stranger in the woods. -Michael Finkel
Civilwarland in bad decline. -George Saunders
(Honorable mention, Lonesome Dove, but it's so universally loved that I wanted to not use it in my 3. :))
I hope to hear from you fellow writers!
Thanks!
