First hpc lock! Vsr 3 row
This was actually a lot of fun once I figured out how to tension it without slipping out.

I picked this one up from yagias the same time as my 600 and a few other locks, highly recommend him as a vendor. I ended up putting this on the back burner and working on the 600 which I finally figured out and today I finally pulled this back out and was amazed at how quick I could get it even with the tricky ruko keyway. Once you figure out what a binding gin feels like these get really fun.
I want to eventually collect and pick every pip lock in existence idk what brand this one was but it was just as fun as the rest. Idk if anyone picks locks in bed every night like a weirdo but I’m very happy a have a patient girlfriend that doesn’t beat me over the head with my vice for it. 😂
Like a dummy I didn’t do what I said I was going to do and film my first attempt on this lock because I was fully expecting to get stuck but I got it open 😂😂 I picked it to a deep false set the first time and chickened out so I counter rotated to check side pins and dropped most of the top stack then went back picked it again and got it open! If you’re not familiar with this lock it has 4 side pins with wafers that drop into holes along the side and soft brick the lock (you have to gut to fix. I bought this thing a few weeks ago and have been dying to pick it but I’ve been insanely busy lately with work and messing with an assa 700 when I had picking time but today was the day! I’m going to make a video showing both opening the lock and then what the trap pins do if not set soon because I think it’s an awesome little lock and haven’t seen anyone post that yet. Huge thanks to sidepicks for selling me this one and helping me out with how to pick it.
This ruko 600(gin drivers) DID NOT come easy for me. I decided to skip the 500 and this was my first real experience with gins. With tremendous help from sidepicks and others in the community I progressively pinned this thing. Finally figured out a method for testing these pin states and after so many times going through the stack feeling like I had everything set and doubting myself till I reset I figured out the problem was what the problem often is, a high set on pin 1. That drops back down and then barely gives feedback but it is there. When I finally got the open I yelled so loud I scared my kid 😂. Gins have fascinated me since I found out they existed and I was determined to figure them out.
Lock mail from sidepicks. I knew as soon as I seen a video on this lock I had to pick it. It’s a pip with trap pins that will brick it if you don’t set them properly and you will have to gut the lock to fix it.
I stole this pic from online so if it’s yours I apologize but I’m looking for some different dorma kaba geges I’ve picked the pextra and love that lock.
Now I just need to track down an mt5+, these pip locks are definitely up there in my favorites to pick.
I’m asking because I have very little experience with standard dimple locks but I love pip dimple locks and don’t seem to have much problem with them at all anymore. However something like this abus ec880 (blue belt with trap pins) is much more of a challenge for me than even my brown belt mult lock with serrated drivers. I got this ones number last night by tensioning way harder than I normally would on a standard pin tumbler lock to increase feedback on binding pins then lightening up a bunch to set. I know linear tension is not some new concept But I’m wondering how everyone else approaches them.
I took some time from even trying harder locks because I was going through some stress in life but in the last two days I got my first open on a gg pextra and now just popped my second brown belt lock this goal p that was so tough for me for a while, what I honestly believe helped me was when I was stressed I picked up 10 American 1100s and some abus locks and sat down and picked each and every one of them over and over. It was just easier to focus on smaller tasks when I had the time to oick but I think it sharpened me up a little bit because I did both on my first attempt . Maybe I’m full of it and just getting lucky lol
Super happy about this open, this lock used to kick my ass and I honestly forgot I had it but I was organizing my locks and came across it so I decided to take a shot at it and honestly I got through it pretty quick. There’s something so satisfying about seeing progress on locks that just had me scratching my head in the past.
Felt good to blind pick this guy right out of the box. Pad locks are by far my favorite they’re just so satisfying to pop open, any suggestions for more or your favorites pls drop in the comments.
