British Columbia Sci 9

I have been assigned to teach grade 9 science this school year and I need resources.

I have never taught science but I have taught all jr/sr math except grade 12.

Our district has banned TPT.

I don’t know how the typical science class runs but I am in a regular classroom that was not set up for science. I also don’t have access to a lab. I do have a sink.

We do have science 9 texts (the old one, and BC Science Connection) however there are 98 students and 65 connection texts and 46 of the old text. Neither have a teacher resource books.

There is one other teacher teaching science 9 but they have never taught it either.

Questions:

  1. What resources do you use (British Columbia specific)

  2. What does the typical class look like?

  3. What does the typical lab look like -taking into consideration I am in a traditional math classroom.

TIA

Social Studies help- need to change approach

Hi all,

I’m looking for Jr/Senior math/English teachers to discuss what a standard class looks like. Including assessments practices.

Classes from gr 7-9 social studies, 7-9 English, senior history, indigenous studies, genocide studies.

A friend/ same school colleague with 25 years experience in multiple provinces has stagnated and needs to change practise or seriously burn out.

She has given me permission to ask, she isn’t on Reddit.

Please avoid all complaints about funding, materials, behaviour, admin, etc…

Thank you in advance for keeping things neutral or positive.
