Erasmus student coming to Lisbon - need some advice about public transport and getting a NIF
Hey everyone!
I’m coming to Lisbon at the beginning of September for an Erasmus exchange and I’m trying to sort a few things out before I arrive.
A friend told me, and I’ve also seen a few people mention on Reddit, that as an EU student I might be able to get free (or much cheaper) public transport if I have a NIF. I’m a bit confused about how it actually works though.
The same friend also said that I should book an appointment to get a NIF as early as possible because they’re often fully booked months in advance. Since it’s already the beginning of July, I’m wondering if I should be doing that now.
Has anyone been through this recently? Is the NIF all I need or are there other documents or steps? And is there anything else you think I should sort out before moving to Lisbon?
Thanks a lot!
