was metformin enough?

i am 31 weeks and just got diagnosed with GD based on bad fasting numbers ranging from 96-108 but all meal numbers are fine. i’ve tried bedtime snacks but am moving on to medication. the problem is that i’ve been seeing midwives my whole pregnancy and i really like the way they do things and the way they approach birth. i had to meet with an OB to discuss options for my GD and if i do metformin im for sure able to stay with the midwives but they recommend insulin more and in that case i will have to move over to physicians or mostly physician led care. im just wondering if those with strictly bad fasting numbers if metformin was enough to keep you under control through the rest of your pregnancy or did you end up having to add insulin anyways?

not diagnosed yet but bad fasting numbers

i’ve been testing for the past 5 days to see whether or not i have GD (almost immediately threw up the 3 hr gtt resulting in a void, opted to finger prick) and all my meal numbers have been within range but my fasting numbers range from 98-107 no matter if ive eaten before bed or not. i’m guessing im probably heading to a GD diagnosis based off this on my appointment on monday. I will 31 weeks and im just curious if anyone who got a diagnosis at this point especially for fasting numbers if they tried to diet control those numbers or they just went straight to overnight insulin/or medication? i’m just trying to manage my expectations and prepare myself
