What’s the entertainment industry like in North Jersey?

Hey everyone! I’m an artist/musician/producer, dancer, filmmaker/actress, photographer, and all-around creative entrepreneur, much like most people in the industry, haha. I’m planning on touring the East Coast next year and am already feeling like Northern NJ could be a promising hub to permanently relocate to.

Wanted to see if you guys could share your experiences in Northern NJ. Do you find its proximity to NYC convenient while still being able to dodge the big-city chaos? Is there a lot of work out there in the entertainment industry in general?

A lot of musicians have actually told me that North Jersey is a mecca for acoustic cover gigs. I’ve also heard from dancers that there are tons of go-go dancing gigs in New York City, along with plenty of opportunities at curated pop nights, drag shows, and other LGBTQ-themed nightlife events for singers who are pop- and dance-forward. Also more network TV and theater opps for acting than in LA or Chicago. It just seems like everywhere I look in that specific NJ/NYC area, there’s a plethora of opportunities.

Also, are people pretty nice? Lol. New Yorkers tend to have a mixed reputation surrounding that. I heard NJ folks are a little bit less “intense”? Haha. I love New Yorkers tho

Thinking About Moving to Philly: How’s the Music Scene?

Hey everyone!
I’m an alt pop singer-songwriter, pro musician, artist, and producer currently based in the Cincinnati, Ohio/Northern Kentucky region. I’ve been seriously considering moving to Philly so I can be around more music infrastructure. Cincy is great, but there’s not much going on here.

I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about Philly’s music scene lately, as word is that you guys are currently “having a moment”. I feel as if Philly is all in all a great central location considering its immediate proximity to NYC and it also being so close to NOVA/DC. I perform original music but I also play covers at service industry gigs to make ends meet (bars, breweries, wineries, restaurants, etc).

For those of you who’ve spent time in the Philly music scene—whether as musicians, artists, venue owners, promoters, etc—what’s your experience been like? I’d love to hear the good, the bad, and everything in between.
Thanks so much!
