This is the sound a data center makes around the clock, every single night - while hundreds of homes sit right next door.

How come a progressive didn't go up against Brendan Boyle?

As a Philadelphia native, while I'm happy that Chris Rabb won, it also makes me sad that I'm stuck in Brendan Boyle's district as he's clearly an establishment Dem. that has officially been endorsed by AIPAC. Also, my aunt and uncle have had personal issues with Boyle. Therefore, I can't understand why a progressive didn't challenge Boyle given the fact that there were other establishment Dem incumbents who were being challenged by a more progressive candidate. Why do you think it was that nobody challenged Boyle in the primary?

PS- For those of you who've noticed me complaining on Reddit many times about how people are holding the Democrats responsible for the awful things Trump has done due to them blaming the Dems for why Trump won the election to begin with, what I discussed above proves that I'm not a fan of the establishment faction of the Democrat party despite my complaints. I mention this since people have accused me of supporting the establishment faction as a result of this. The reasons to why I'm bothered that folks are going so far as to hold the Dems responsible for what Trump has done is because one, SCOTUS and McConnell are clearly more deserving of blame than the Dems for why Trump won the election, and two, even if the Dems are the most deserving of blame for the 2024 election, Trump still had the choice to not do all these awful things but chose to do them.

New to old city!

Hi all!
My partner and I just moved to Old City a few days ago and are wanting some ideas on how to get out there and mingle to make friends.
We are both early 30’s.

I’m hoping for some pointers to adult clubs or events.

Book clubs
Walking clubs
Biking clubs
Art shows/events
Pickleball
Magic the gathering game nights
Trivia

Volunteering opportunities too!!!! We want to get involved with our new community.

Thanks in advance 😊

Text Josh Shapiros office at (717) 788-8990! NO AI Data Centers in Philly!!!! Trying to find a "middle ground" with republicans WILL NOT WORK

"Gov. Josh Shapiro proposed speeding up permitting for data centers that meet environmental and transparency standards during his budget address." Compromising with republicans DOES NOT WORK

Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R., Indiana) told Spotlight PA that while he is “appreciative” of the legislation sent over by the state House, he wants to consider the issue more “holistically.” WTF DOES THAT MEAN??

Thoughts on the Philly Saves retirement program that was passed last night?

Ballot question 1 on the creation of the Philly Saves retirement program passed last night. Out of curiosity, why did people vote for or against this program?

It seems like the city will automatically deduct 3-6% from your paycheck towards a traditional or Roth IRA. On the pro side, this will help people save more money towards retirement and perhaps enroll people into an investment tool that they may not know was available to them. My take on it is that this will create more bureaucracy and another committee that will cost taxpayer money to provide a service that is available to people anyway. This isn't a 401k and there's no match. Moreover, hard to imagine that this will benefit the target audience who are low savers who are probably not saving much because they're barely surviving to their next paycheck.

Curious to hear people's thoughts on this.

CHRIS RABB WINS!!!!

Chris Rabb beat two AIPAC candidates in a landslide. He's been calling out genocide and has been attacked by Zionists for years. Not today Satan. It "twas a good day in sunny Philadelphia!

Lost necklace Rittenhouse May 2nd

I know this was a long time ago at this point, but my sister just told me about it cause she was so upset. She lost her gold necklace with her kids birthday stones. It was at the Rittenhouse row festival on May 2nd. She thinks it may have been at the uchi tent between 17th and 18th on Walnut.
I’m just grasping at straws trying to help her! Thanks so much everyone!

Denied a Street Tree. Possible to plant in a large planter?

I'm in south philly on a tiny street and was denied a street tree last year. Recently a friend suggested I apply again but ask if they'd plant it in a large, provided planter. Obviously the tree would need to be something small and ok with being in a planter vs the ground (I have the full list of approved trees, just haven't reviewed).

Anyone try this before?
