Rant: Excessively loud cars
I get that it’s fun, but man I wish the city had a noise ordinance. It’s completely unfair that ppl can tear through neighborhoods at any hour full blast. We have speed cameras, would noise cameras be that much harder or unreasonable? Or no cameras - just give police permission to ticket folks who rev like maniacs.
Noise pollution isn’t just a preference - both constant and sudden loud noises increase stress, wake up babies, triggers PTSD, and much more. It literally disturbs the peace the vast majority of us seek.
If folks gotta have a Saturday a week to let it rip - fine. Or maybe during a few hours in the early evening. I get it - it’s fun, it’s also part of culture and community for some. But it’s insane that we tolerate this kind of anti-social behavior 24/7.
Can you imagine if we actually had peace and quiet in the city?
Structural engineer for roof deck project?
Hi!
New home owner here considering adding weight to an existing roof deck for a beautification project, and I’m realizing I’ll likely need to involve an engineer.
Was curious if anybody has any perspective!
Curious about:
- any recommended licensed Philly firms or individuals? (I’d prefer smaller boutique local firm that specializes in home projects)
- how much will it cost to just get an engineer to do a walk through of my house and let me know if my idea is even feasible?
- how do I figure out if I even need one for the project I have in mind?
Any advice for getting started from a seasoned [Philly] home owner to a newb is appreciated!
