Happy 250, America

As the 250th birthday of this country comes to a close, and the fireworks stop booming outside my window, I wonder what we have to celebrate. Some other poster somewhere on this site said it felt more like a wake, and I think I agree. It feels like a wake, a memorial, a celebration of the life that was, even if that life has quite yet shuffled off to the pearly gates.

Everything great seems to have been from years past. Once in the past we cured diseases, put men on another heavenly body, won two whole world wars, invented the digital realm I now type these words on, and sent our stories and characters to every corner of the globe. We made giant metal birds that crisscrossed the skies, explored outer space, the ocean depths and the human body at the same time, let people have dreams, and built what we were told was the American Dream.

And now... what? What do we have to look forward to now?

We have the west on fire while data centers in the east drain the water from the ground. We have greedy execs in Silicon Valley, Hollywood and Wall Street telling us that AI will create and think for us, and that we will own less and less everyday while thanking them for the smaller and smaller crumbs that trickle down. We have enshitification, everything turned into a gig economy, and please wait while this website verifies that you’re human. Traitors that would overturn this democracy are goose-stepping in our nation’s capital as fortunate sons trade on insider information and the diminished leader lines his pockets by slicing up the country and selling to wealthy cronies.

What little was good about this country seems to be over, the best is behind us and we get a front row seat to see its demise. The first 250 may be the only 250 we get, with half of the country proudly celebrating the birthday as if there are many more to come without understanding that the diagnosis may be terminal.

So join me in lifting a glass in memory, in celebration, or maybe just in hopes we can dull the pain.

Fuck it.

Happy 250, America.

Was it not over the first time? Was it over but it started again? Am I to dumb to understand what he's saying?

Propaganda Knowledge

berenice_dolls

Propaganda has always been America's sharpest weapon. It makes cruelty look like safety and convinces people to cheer for their own destruction.

We've seen it again and again:
They called Native nations "savages" to justify genocide and painted land theft as "Manifest Destiny."

They spread "Yellow Peril" lies about Chinese workers to pass the Chinese Exclusion Act.
They pushed false "science" claiming Africans felt less pain, to excuse slavery, torture, and medical abuse.

They told Americans that Japanese incarceration camps were a "military necessity," while families lost homes, businesses, and nearly 2,000 lives.
After 9/11, Muslims, Sikhs, South Asians, and Arabs were painted as terrorists, unleashing waves of violence here at home.

They targeted Mexican Americans through Depression-era "Repatriation," 1950s Operation Wetback, and lynchings during La Matanza, all sold as "law and order."

And today, propaganda says immigrants are "criminals" while we watch mothers selling fruit, fathers selling flowers, and even firefighters saving lives get stopped and questioned.

This is the cost of propaganda: families destroyed, communities destabilized, economies damaged, lives lost.

We must study the pattern, call it what it is, and refuse to let cruelty keep wearing the mask of safety or righteousness!

Armed queers don’t get bashed

My heart is full with the reception we received marching in the parade this year, I can't tell you how much of an honor it was to be a part of this event and I look forward to many more in the future. I tried my best to handout stickers to those who went above and beyond in their vocal support for us, and my only regret is that I didn't have more to give! It's a great problem to have, and I can't thank my community enough for showing out on Sunday.

For those of you who don’t know what the Pink Pistols are you can look us up or read about us here https://pinkpistols.org/PPUtilityManual.pdf and for anyone local to the area I have started a subreddit at r/PinkPistolsPGH to field questions and promote upcoming events with more to come shortly.

Happy Pride! 🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
