3-year Bachelor of Medical Science from Australia — options for Master's in Health Science fields in Canada?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice on my next steps and would really appreciate any insight from people familiar with Canadian graduate admissions.
I am a Canadian citizen currently living in Ontario. I completed a 3-year Bachelor of Medical Science Australia. My degree was heavily focused on medicine.
I originally planned to continue into medicine as I had a direct offer, but I had to leave Australia. Now I am trying to figure out my best pathway in Canada.
I have been looking into Master's programs such as:
- Health Sciences (MHSc/MSc)
- Biomedical Sciences
- Neuroscience
- Pathology-related programs
- Other medically related graduate programs
My main concern is that many Canadian Master's programs require a 4-year honours bachelor's degree, and I only have a 3-year Australian Bachelor of Medical Science.
I am trying to find out:
- Has anyone with a 3-year bachelor's degree successfully entered a Canadian Master's program?
- Are there universities that offer a qualifying year, pre-Master's pathway, bridging courses, or conditional admission for students in my situation?
I am open to Ontario or other Canadian provinces. My long-term interests are still health/medicine-related, so I want a program that actually builds medical knowledge.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
