Concordia vs. Brock vs. York

Hey everyone, I’m an older transfer student (29) finishing up an Associate degree in English, and I’m looking to transition to a Canadian university (from the U.S) to complete my Bachelor's. I am feeling completely torn between three different universities and I was hoping to get your feedback on which you think would be better.

My long-term creative and career goals span a mix of Creative Writing/Narrative Design, or work in script writing (especially in animation).
The current degrees I’m looking at are

York BFA Screen Writing
Concordia BA Creative Writing
Brock University Interactive Arts and Digital Media

Any feedback on these universities (and the cities they are in) would be great! Especially culturally, I really would love a location where I can connect with a vibrant, active queer/nerdy community.

Urgent Third and Fourth Year UofT Engineering Course Selection Help

Can someone please let me know how it’s looking for me. I’m an EE student doing a bioengineering minor and engineering business minor. I took some advice from my old post after getting feedback and am considering my focus + interest to be in wearable bio tech, hardware end of prosthetics, chip design, circuitry, etc. Also I really need to boost my GPA in third year so I can get a PEY job. Ik my fourth year would be kinda hard seeing how I focused a lot of easier courses in third year but still overall considering everything I mentioned, upper years and graduates, please let me know if this is good enough or any advice? 😭🥺

3-year Bachelor of Medical Science from Australia — options for Master's in Health Science fields in Canada?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on my next steps and would really appreciate any insight from people familiar with Canadian graduate admissions.

I am a Canadian citizen currently living in Ontario. I completed a 3-year Bachelor of Medical Science Australia. My degree was heavily focused on medicine.

I originally planned to continue into medicine as I had a direct offer, but I had to leave Australia. Now I am trying to figure out my best pathway in Canada.

I have been looking into Master's programs such as:

  • Health Sciences (MHSc/MSc)
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Neuroscience
  • Pathology-related programs
  • Other medically related graduate programs

My main concern is that many Canadian Master's programs require a 4-year honours bachelor's degree, and I only have a 3-year Australian Bachelor of Medical Science.

I am trying to find out:

  1. Has anyone with a 3-year bachelor's degree successfully entered a Canadian Master's program?
  2. Are there universities that offer a qualifying year, pre-Master's pathway, bridging courses, or conditional admission for students in my situation?

I am open to Ontario or other Canadian provinces. My long-term interests are still health/medicine-related, so I want a program that actually builds medical knowledge.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Which university in Quebec do you recommend?

Merci d’avance! 🙏🏻

Applying to grad school in canada after 4 year gap

I have been looking into various STEM undergrad degrees over the past year and wana get into something engineering or related to my current course (airplane mechanic).

What i found out was that 99% of the courses have maths (advance calculus)/physics and more in the syllabus.

My issue is i havent touched up on these topics since i got out of school about 7 years ago and i really doubt my ability to just show up to uni and start taking in all the info they'll provide with no problems.

I did read that in the USA they have some sort of remedial classes or so which help you catchup but in canada thats not the case hence im here seeking for ideas or paths as to what can i do.

Need some advice as an intl. student!

I'm not applying yet, but I will soon. I'm from PH and low income. I'm hoping to take up Film as I'm interested in Vancouver's film industry! But ofc I know Canada isn't so generous with international students and their aids... But I would still like to hear some perspectives or advice on what I can do!

I'd prefer if people were to PM me and chat more about this but here are my questions for now.

-How generous would you say your schools are in terms of funding for international students?

-Would it be easier to find stability in USA rather than Canada in terms of aid and scholarships?

Higher education strengthens national unity and protects against democratic backsliding

I like where Saunders is going here. I do think, and perhaps I'm biased as a teacher in these areas, that he needs to emphasize critical education, especially in the humanities and social sciences. But this is an excellent start.

Enrolled to University Canada West

Hi there, thank you for reading my post! 😊

I am enrolling to UCW for MBA this September! I am excited to experience the student life. Is there any tips or any things I should know before I start my studies?

Thank you in advance!

Just for the record, I am an international student and am aware of the racism. I won't argue that this education helps in my PR but that's not the sole reason I applied for an MBA. I had a dream to become a master's graduate like my mother and am eager to learn what MBA has to offer!

Edit: After reading the comments, I want to explain that I am not using MBA for PR. And thank you for advising me that UCW was a really bad choice. It will help me plan my future ahead.

Also, I have already applied but I wanted to say that I have an Investment Funds in Canada certificate and will explore more to counter the downsides of studying in UCW. This has really been a great insight.

What are my chances of getting accepted into a Bachelor’s in Political Science at UdeM , Concordia, or other Montréal/Quebec Universities?

Hi, I'm (20F) a French student that did the Bac in 2024 considering applying to universities in Québec to do a Bachelor's in Political Science (since tuition would be more affordable for me). I've spent the last two years trying, in vain, to get into a licence science politique* *through Parcoursup. That would have been the most convenient route, but it simply isn't an option for me (I got waitlisted and ultimately didn’t get into a single Uni I applied to for Political Science).

I struggled a lot in Première, and my grades pretty much reflect that. I got a 6 on the Bac Français écrit and a 10 on the oral. But I managed to bring my grades up in Terminale, and I graduated with a 13.05 overall average (which isn’t great, I’m aware, but it was the best I could do in the moment): 17 in HGGSP, 16 in LLCER Anglais, 13 in the Grand Oral, and 17.6 in DNL. I also took the DGEMC option and got a 12 in that. I did do badly in Philo though and I got an 8 there, unfortunately. That’s basically what my Bac Générale results look like.

As for my other subject grades throughout the two years: English was consistently around 18-19. In German, I went from an 11 in Première to an 18 in Terminale. History/Geography hovered around 12-13. Math was by far my worst subject, and I got a 7. In EMC I had a 14, and in Enseignement Scientifique a 10.

I really want to study Political Science. But at this point, I’m starting to think it’s nothing more than a pipe dream. I guess I just want an objective, brutally honest take on whether I have a shot or not. All the people I’ve asked previously probably sugarcoat it because it’s tough news to deliver. But I need to know if there’s still hope for me. Are there any Universities in Québec or Montréal that I could realistically get into? Should I just accept that I can’t study Political Science and take up something else?

Also, I know this is really long so thank you to everyone who read all of this ^^ :)

LGBTQ+ friendly universities

I'm planning on going into environmental science/policy, and I am currently looking for universities. I am queer, (not visibly so for safety at the moment) and I would like to go to university somewhere that has a good LGBTQ+ community, both on campus, and if possible, in the surrounding city.

Thank you!

Music Undergrad for University of Ottawa

I’ve just finished my Grade 11 year of high school, and so it’s time I have to think about applying to post-secondary. I’d like to go to University of Ottawa for law school (specifically becoming a criminal lawyer). I know the following requirements about undergrad for that program:

  1. Must be at a university
  2. Can be anything
  3. Must be at least three years, but four preferred

I’d like my undergrad to be in either music production (contemporary music studio work to be specific), or something in film. I currently plan to apply to Carelton’s BMus program, but I’m lost for other programs that fit the bill and I’d like to take. I’d like to stay in or near Ottawa, but if it must be a bit further, that’s okay. I’m just really lost, and I need advice.

Also, sorry about this being in the nation-wide sub. I tried to post it in r/OntarioUniversities but the post got removed immediately for some reason.

What are some majors i could apply to

Ive always wanted to go into engineering because of its hands on stuff, but im not that great at physics (85) and it is probably my least favourite subject (mostly because i dont understand anytning no matter how mhch work i put in or no matter what i do).
Im probably going to apply to biomedical engineering because biology was always really interesting (learning abt diseases mostly) but im not good at memorizing lots of stuff.
My other grades are pretty mediocre (low 90’s) and i dont know if i should still apply to engineering. I have also thought of biotech or mahbe even forensic science. Anyone got any ideas

Please help me choose

So I have been admitted to Uni of Waterloo co-op program and it costs 200k usd for the entire program, for which I will have to take a loan which can be repaid after a 6 month breathing period after my under grad with 8% interest, my other option would be joining a private uni from a 3rd world country
