how do i break into the industrial hygienist industry in ontario?

What cert do I need to do?
How do i get those ethics courses for the CIH?

Do i need an accredited degree for this? i’m in uoft and they don’t have any accredited IH undergrad degrees.

i’m already halfway through my studies and i missed the application deadline for TMU’s occupational health and safety degree.

can i get into this industry with just a bachelors, or is a postgrad degree necessary?

bachelors:
double majors in
chemistry
environment and health

how do i break into the environmental toxicology/industrial hygienist industry in ontario?

can i get into this industry with just a bachelors, or is a postgrad degree necessary?

should i major in:
is a double major in:
environment and health and chemistry a good programme for this field?

or is the environmental geosciences a better option?

any tips on getting internships in this field?

how big is the environmental underwriting industry in singapore? what degree is good for insurance jobs?

by insurance jobs i mean claims/underwriting and other back end roles, NOT those sales financial agent roles.

i’ve heard of people with environmental science degrees getting into environmental underwriting roles, but i’m not sure how feasible or difficult it is.

i can’t seem to find much information for these jobs, and i’m not sure why it doesn’t seem to be a super popular role. is there a catch or something that i’m missing? it seems to pay well and doesn’t have as bad a wlb as finance. and it seems to be pretty desk based (not sales unlike those insurance agents)

UofT Economics or UBC Sauder Commerce

i’m an international student who has lived in ontario (not the GTA) for 2 years.

i’ve been to toronto for a few times and really loved it, but i’ve never been to vancouver.

i’m also in my early 20s so i’m a little older than most UG students - which also means if i can avoid doing grad studies that’ll be better

UofT BA pros:
- location (in my bucket list, i aim to live in a big city like toronto before i turn age 35)

- networking opps for toronto jobs

- econs is not a bad degree - it’s versatile and decently regarded in my home country and i don’t need grad studies

- i can minor in GIS which i’m interested in (i guess this can open some doors?)

- i like ontario culture more than bc culture? i also love how diverse and accepting toronto is

UofT BA cons:
- too broad of a degree, i worry about job prospects

- my math foundation isn’t the best, so i have heaps to catch up on

- if things don’t go well in toronto (eg bad grades, can’t make friends etc), i worry i may be upset at myself for choosing a less employable degree.

- at the back of my head im still gonna try to transfer to rotman, although chances are low so i need to be okay w econs

- i hope to work in toronto eventually so i may need to do grad studies

ps im open to other BA or Bsc recs at UofT. i chose econs mainly for its employability.

UBC Sauder Commerce pros:
- recruitment pipeline (although it’s mainly to vancouver and i don’t really wanna live in vancouver after i graduate). but a job’s a job and maybe i’ll learn to like vancouver more

- possibility of doing an accredited professional programme (accounting) —> i’m not sure if i’ll like accounting, but at least i’ll give it a shot!

- less chance of needing graduate studies if i want to work in canada

- commerce is not a bad degree, i would say it’s equal to uoft’s econ degree in my home country.

- it’s so much harder to get into than UofT BA.

UBC Sauder Commerce cons:
- i don’t think i will like vancouver. i hate the rain. i hate skiing as its so expensive and i suck at it. i’m not super outdoorsy (although i’m down to pick up new hobbies like hiking)

- i worry it’ll be harder to make friends in UBC (apparently BC bail and Vancouver Freeze is a thing?)
i’m staying off campus (altho it’s near to campus). i’ll deffo join clubs but i heard they are cliquish?

ik i should have applied for other ontario commerce schools, but i was an idiot who only applied to uoft and ubc. and i’m really not keen on a gap year.

would really appreciate some insights! TYSM!

is materials science a good field to get into in toronto?

i’ll be doing an accredited science degree at UofT, not engineering. will i be at a disadvantage in the job market with a science, not engineering degree?

can i get into this industry with just a bachelors, or is a postgrad degree necessary?

and any tips on getting jobs or internships?

is orientation worth it as a mature transfer student? (st michael’s college)

i’m 23 (born in ‘03) this year, and will be staying at Loretto’s (the women’s only wing at St Mikes).

On one hand, I’m new to Toronto and would love to make new friends, especially people staying in the same residence as me.

On the other hand, I’m 5 years older than most first years and feel a little odd if I were to attend orientation. Especially since the orientation leaders are probably my age or younger 😩

Ideally I’d like to befriend the other Upper Years on my Floor and Wing, idk if orientation will help with that.

is it dumb to give up orientation because of my age? I mean there might be other older students attending orientation? or i could just befriend some first years to eat lunch with since i have a meal plan at st mikes and it’ll suck if i have to eat meals alone all the time? 😩😩😩i’m not sure if im thinking too much.

Does Sauder Accounting/Real Estate have good placements in the Greater Toronto Area?

How’s the placements if I can’t get into the Coop Stream? I’m international by the way.

I checked on LinkedIn and a lot of the alumni are based in Vancouver, I wonder if that’s because Sauder students generally want to stay in BC, or Sauder just places people in BC.

Is Sauder worth it if I want to work/intern in Toronto?

I stupidly didn’t apply for other Ontario based programmes, except Rotman, which rejected me as I’m a transfer student.

how is the uoft BA econs & geography programmes? what is employability and difficulty like?

i’m conflicted between the uoft BA, the a sauder BComm.
i think i’ll find the uoft programme more interesting, but i worry about employment.

how’s the employment prospects of the uoft programme?

is it difficult to get bank jobs (econs major), or GIS jobs (geographical data science major) right out of undergrad?

how helpful are the departments, and how difficult is it to do decently for postgrad programmes in econs or urban planning?

How are classes like in Sauder? What should I expect coming in?

I read that Sauder classes are more collaborative than other business schools. Not sure how true that is?

I’m an incoming transfer student from an unrelated background, and I’m honestly worried about how I’ll cope with Business school as a shy person.

Sauder Accounting or UofT Econs?

I made a similar post on whether I should take a gap year to apply for accounting in Ontario, and I decided against it. I decided to relook at my options, and I realise that (MAYBE) I can just study econs instead in Toronto since I got into UofT social sciences????
Not sure if it’s a bad idea though! Since I think I’d prefer Accounting.

i was accepted into sauder business school as a transfer student, but i’m having second thoughts about going to vancouver.

is it worth it to get an a UofT economics degree, or am i better off graduating in a specialised degree like accounting in vancouver? i don’t want to transfer a third time so i want to make sure i stick it out wherever i choose.

i like toronto, and i want to work in ontario after i graduate. i’ve lived in ontario for a while, but i’ve never stepped foot in bc.
i also feel i won’t really like vancouver. i’m not an outdoorsy person. i like the diversity and city life in toronto.

should i accept sauder (ubc) and try my best to find accounting internships in ontario?

or am i better off taking an adjacent degree like econs in toronto, and network like crazy since toronto is a financial hub?

lowkey i just wanna be employed in toronto. i think i’ll like accounting more than finance but i can also see myself working as a financial analyst, and economics can bring me that??? ultimately i just wanna live in toronto.

i’m an international student who has lived in canada for a while, if it matters.

Sauder has an option for coop, but it’s competitive and not guaranteed.
