Hi all, my academic decision is attached to this post. It says “may continue in honours program” but I am in a specialized honours program. Is this because I failed to meet the requirements to continue in specialized honours or does this decision apply to both spec. honours and honours programs? Thanks
Got extremely sick, went through a break up, had family issues, all in the span of midterms month... had to learn half of 6 courses 1 week before finals, and I survived ❤️
By all my research I think I made the deans list I have a grade point average of 8.70 in my final year and everything says I need a 7.50 how do I know if I made it??
I’m sharing this because I think more people should know the extent of what is happening inside the primate research lab at York University (behavioural science building) in detail.
According to reports, 9 rhesus macaques were involved in this research, and some reportedly lived inside the lab for nearly 9 years and up to 17 years!
⚠️TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️ (some of this might be distressing to read)
Some of the documented conditions and treatment reportedly included:
-All macaques were forced to wear restraint collars around their necks, and some were seen gripping the collars and struggling to swallow food
-Visible brain implants covered in dried blood
-One macaque, Kenny, repeatedly picking at his implant until he pulled it out, leaving a hole in his head
-Bento reportedly drank his own urine and suffered from alopecia after repeatedly ripping out his own hair as a coping mechanism
-Over 80 surgeries reportedly performed on the macaques combined, including skull implants, craniotomies, bone removal, and eye surgeries
-Liesl reportedly suffered significant vision loss and was left nearly blind after repeated surgeries
-Some implants reportedly remained attached to monkeys’ skulls for over a decade
-Records showing infections linked to implants
-Water restriction used as part of experiments. Staff reportedly admitting concerns that monkeys were not receiving enough water to prevent dehydration
-Hair loss, visible distress, and signs of psychological suffering observed in multiple macaques
-Macaques living alone in small, barren cages without natural enrichment
-Monkeys pacing, swaying, overgrooming, and pulling out their own hair from stress
All links, resources and ways to help that I am aware of will be in the comments. Please share, boost and contribute in any way possible. If anyone has any suggestions for how to help or other resources, please comment as well.
‼️NOTE‼️: This research does NOT provide any “life or death” findings for humans. Either way it is still not justified to put any animal under these conditions. Millions of dollars have been funded towards this research both by the university and the government (our tuition and tax money). We have every right to speak up about this. There are different and opposing views on animal research and this post is NOT FOR DEBATE, but ONLY for those who would like to support this cause. I also suggest doing your research and reading the views of other professionals linked below before commenting “but it is necessary for medicine”.
I am posting about this again as I think more people need to understand the extent of the problem with this research in detail. Also, I wanted to cross-post this into other communities to reach a wider audience. I do not want this story to die down so I will continue talking about this until they are free as soon as possible. WE HAVE TO SPEAK UP FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT SPEAK!
**Campus Safety Notice – Please Read**
Posting this again since my previous post and account got massively reported by the members, and subsequently deleted by Reddit.
To my fellow students: I want to respectfully bring awareness to the presence of a high-control religious group that is actively recruiting on campus.
To preface, you may of heard of a group called “Rise” or “Rise Ministries Bible Talk.” Do not be fooled, this is the Restored Church.
Members often approach students by asking if they’d like to “study the Bible” or attend a small group discussion. Once they get your contact information, this typically turns into repeated one-on-one Bible studies.
If you already identify as Christian (Protestant, Orthodox, Catholic, etc.), they may cherry-pick Scripture to argue that you are not a “real” Christian and that your baptism was invalid. When questioned, verses are often stretched to fit their doctrine, relying heavily on sola scriptura while dismissing historical and theological context. There is very little openness to outside interpretation.
They tend to focus heavily on students who are emotionally vulnerable or going through mental health struggles, as people in these situations are easier to influence. At the beginning, they will “love-bomb” you with consistent attention—checking in constantly, offering support, making you feel deeply seen. For many, it feels comforting at first. Over time, however, this often shifts into pressure and guilt if you don’t attend multiple weekly church events. You may hear “do not forsake the assembly,” even though their expectations are unrealistic for students balancing school, work, family, and life.
There is also strong pressure to give money regularly, regardless of personal financial hardship. Missing a donation may lead to confrontation.
Students are often discouraged from prioritizing family gatherings, friendships, or social plans outside the group. Instead, you’re expected to commit first and foremost to church activities and only associate closely with your “brothers and sisters.” If you don’t, your loyalty and faith may be questioned. Dating is restricted to the church, if you have a significant other outside the church, you are told to break up with them.
After weeks of studies, individuals are often pushed to publicly repent and be baptized by full submersion, becoming “born again”. Catholics are called pagans, and their infant baptisms are labeled as invalid. From there, you are expected to recruit others and make disciples using the same methods. Members are then sorted into campus ministry, singles ministry, and couples/married ministry, deepening the social control.
To anyone currently involved or being contacted: please move with caution. Leaving high-control groups is extremely difficult because of the emotional bonds, constant communication, and gradual reshaping of your worldview. Over time, it becomes harder to recognize manipulation from inside the system.
This group identifies as the “Restored Church Toronto” led by Evan Bartholomew and is affiliated with the known cult, the International Churches of Christ. The founder of the affiliated movement, Kip McKean, has long been associated with serious public controversies, including allegations of abuse cover-ups and financial exploitation. I strongly encourage everyone to research independently and verify information through multiple credible sources.
A church founded less than 100 years ago does not represent the historic Christian Church.
Students deserve community, faith, and support— not control, fear, or coercion. York University should not be allowing a high-control organization to recruit students on campus.
Please stay safe, stay informed, and look out for one another.
Got an email about York proposing putting an end to Glendon as a faculty and moving all students, staff and faculty to Keele campus.
Hello
If anyone has taken MODR 1760 how was it in your experience and would you recommend it? Is it an easy A/A+?
More of a PSA but some of my female friends were getting creeped out by some guy with piercings. They said he had mid-length hair in a wolf cut and dressed very rugged. Baggy pants with a silver belt and keys attached to them, that’s apparently how they noticed he was following them around. He had asked one out, and after she denied him they continued to notice him hovering around them for a couple of hours. Apparently he was in their graphic design course so stay safe everyone
I’m planning on graduating in June and the graduation status has doesn’t have a statement. Wondering if anyone else has that too
I'm coming to York this fall and was wondering if you guys had any tips for how I should roughly plan out my schedule for first year as a commuter (Its like an hour and a half commute). I'm going into nursing but I think thats irrelevant since Im looking for general tips, what to avoid, what you wish you knew your first year as a commuter etc.,
Thanks!!!
missed it by like 10 days. how low do you think my chances are
I'm in 3rd year Electrical Engineering at Lassonde and I'd really love to graduate as fast as I can.
I'm looking at about 4 semesters to be done. I really wanted to cap my self at 4 courses per smeester but unfortunately, I might have to keep it at 5 courses per semester.
The good news is, 3 out of the 4 remaining semesters will have 4 major/core + 1 capstone/gen ed. So nothing too insane. Only one semester of those 4 remaining semesters will have 5 core courses. The million dollar question, is it doable?
What was your 3rd/4th year like at Lassonde? How was your workload? Any advice for me?
basically I need to be spending about 20 dollars on my card every day (complicated story with my parents). Is there anyone who would be willing to let me buy them lunch from either the central square cafeteria or the ssc cafe in exchange for an et or cash for the food I get you? I'm willing take take -$5 of the price I pay and you essentially get discounted food.
Okay, so I know it's getting hot and summer is here, but like WHY AM I SWEATING SO MUCH EVERYWHERE I GO!? Like holy, I thought there'd be at least some sort of air conditioning or fan systems considering how large the university is but 😭😭😭
If anyone has any suggested spots they know are cooler on campus, please let me know cuz I legit can't study at Scott atp.
FYI i tried and berg and Lassonde but its still kinda hot there at times 😭😭😭
Hello Everyone. I am biomed student who has wrapped up their 2nd year and will be entering their 3rd year this upcoming Fall 2026. I wanted to get involved in research and seek out the research opportunities available to me as an undergrad.
I reached out to some profs, not a lot though. About 4 profs whom I genuinely found their work to be interesting and would like to be apart of their lab. I told them about myself, my post-grad plan, why I am reaching out, what I found interesting about their specific lab, I even read their publications to get insight about their work and included a sentence or two regarding that in the email.
The reason why I only emailed 4 is because one of my friends, who is in a research lab warned me that profs can easily tell who is not actually interested. I didn't want to spam multiple profs whose labs don't make me confident about whether I would enjoy this research topic.
However, none of them responded. It's not the end of the world of course as it's expected that emailing 4 profs won't get you far as they are busy with their own stuff as well. However, now I'm wondering what else could I realistically do then?
Will Keep this short.
Internship hunt is hard, and any opportunity should be utilized.
KKC consulting absolutely not. Horrible experience.
Aside from the unpaid work, our team structure was inefficient, work didn’t even end up being used, and was constantly criticized by its founder Ammar Khan for not adhering to his guidelines for our work (our team all did the exact same thing but I got flamed)
The entire process was extremely inefficient, was promised a referral to some open positions he had connections with, and still did not receive anything from Ammar or team.
Ask me more questions if you have any. Could ramble about the insane Nepo and unfairness brought by this decrepit startup
Hello, does anyone know when the add/drop deadline is, where if you drop a course, you are still eligible for a full refund?
Title. Taking this course again this summer after doing dog shit on the midterm in the fall with H. Kassiri. he’s a good guy but fuck that marking murdered me.
anyways i was wondering what the best way to learn this stuff? I have no problem understanding how the solving tactics work, but when it’s time to actually solve a question i have no idea what to do, which is why i probably did so bad on the midterm. i thot i knew it cus i knew the concepts but had no idea how to apply them ig?
i don’t wanna make the same mistake again so if anyone has any tips pls help? in the fall i did all the assignment questions and his video shit but idk ig it wasn’t good enough
