SIT SWE

hi! i'm an incoming ict (software eng) student this year. i have some questions about this course and would love to know SWE seniors' experiences and get advice :)

  1. what languages are taught in this course and anything i should take note of about any of the modules?

  2. how's the weekly schedule like? (i live in the west😭)

  3. laptop recommendations? is there any sort of discount available to buy laptops like in poly? (currently using a shitty laptop i bought for poly that's literally breaking down. doesn't even work properly without constant charging.)

  4. how's the trimester system for this course? is it really tough?

  5. is excluding modules a good idea? (i come from an IT diploma. i've heard that sometimes excluding a module can cause some struggling in other modules u cannot exclude)

What does it mean when I haven't gotten an offer yet but also haven't recieved a reject email yet?

Been checking my email all day and all night but I havent gotten anything yet. I checked my portal too and it still says submitted. What does it mean when I haven't gotten an offer yet but also haven't recieved a reject email yet? I have my appeal letter at the ready too.

No IWSP offers

Am I cooked if I cannot secure an IWSP position by the deadline? I'm from CS, and there is <10 days to the application deadline. I've gone for several interviews but I got ghosted for all. The thing is, I think a significant portion of the cohort is also struggling to secure a position. Will our graduation be delayed?

questions for accountancy students

hi everyone! the deadline for the acceptance of my sit accountancy offer is approaching and i’m still very uncertain about whether i should accept it or go with my ntu mathematical science offer…so i hope that some accountancy seniors can provide answers to the lingering questions i have!

  1. is it difficult to make friends in accountancy

  2. given the large cohort in previous years, are students split into different groups to attend the same classes

  3. how challenging is the trimester system specifically for accountancy students

  4. how often are there group and individual projects and what are they usually about

  5. what do accountancy students usually do for their capstone project

  6. if i do accept the offer, should i purchase an ipad, macbook or both for the course; are there any brands which is more suitable than apple?

Does not having your appealed program in your top 5 affect your appeal?

As per title, I want to appeal for a different course that is not within the 5 I applied for during the initial application phase, will it affect my appeal outcome, like for example putting me into a lower priority

how beneficial is IWSP?

i was looking through some reddit posts about choosing between sit and ntu because i am facing the same dilemma right now (sit accountancy vs ntu mathematical science). a lot of the responses favour ntu and the reason is mainly because of the brand name and prestige which can make it easier when applying for internship and full time jobs. but i don’t see a lot of people bringing up the IWSP and the potential to convert it into a full time job. i know that ntu also has compulsory internship but from what i understand it’s shorter than the IWSP. so i would like to know how beneficial will the IWSP for securing a job upon graduation?

Visiting Faculty from the US looking to chat about life, food, and studying in Singapore!

I am very excited to be visiting SIT as a visiting associate faculty member during this trimester 3. One of my main goals for this trip is to gain a deeper understanding of Singapore.

I would love to chat with anyone about life, staying in Singapore, and of course, the amazing food culture here! In return, I’m happy to share insights about living and studying in the US.

My name is Shawn. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM. Looking forward to connecting!

Is there a reason why my application shows submitted.

I submitted the application on the 14th of March but then it still says only submitted. I see that a lot of other people have gotten their response already or should I just wait till may gets over too?

Insufficient documentation whilst applying?

Not sure if there is anyone who is knowledgeable in this subject of matter, however, I am applying from an International school where I can only receive my final year (12) transcript when the appeal period begins (26 May). This means that I submitted my YR10, 11 and first semester YR12 grades and put a forecasted GPA of 3.8 for my YR12 second semester.

I received my rejection letter today at 3pm and wanted to know if this was because I was missing my entire second semester of YR12, or because I am not a good candidate. I was told twice by the admissions team that I would get automatically rejected due to my insufficient documentation. Despite this, I am just quite nervous and unsure as per whats the reason for my rejection.

(Edit) This isn't that personal, I am German + born in KK medical center... Quite a strange mix.

Course: Aviation Management

Looking forward to see your thoughts.

SIT APPEAL

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on how to write a successful appeal. I recently received a rejection and I want to make sure my appeal is strong and actually stands a chance. What I’m planning to do is acknowledge the outcome respectfully, but mainly focus on any improvements or new experiences I’ve gained since my application—like relevant job shadowing to the field that has strengthened my interest and understanding. I also want to clearly show why I’m still genuinely committed to the same course and why I feel I’m a better fit now compared to before. For those who’ve successfully appealed before, what made your appeal stand out? What should I definitely include or avoid so it doesn’t come across as too generic or emotional?

++ i did had an interview for the first window. so do i stand a chance from there too ? much help needed.

Why are so many SIT engineering degrees not accredited?

Only some degrees like Pharmaceutical and ICT are recognised by EAB. The rest? Why aren’t they accredited as well? Is it important to have an accredited degree? I heard if you want to work as an engineer overseas, many companies will completely dismiss your degree if it isn’t accredited, let alone becoming a PE

PT/ HSS concerns? advice needed

Hi I was offered PT and I’m a recent poly grad from a non science course and I can’t help feel a bit conflicted in my uni choices. I either continue with what I was previously studying in poly - [“easier” because of prior knowledge, at least I have some idea of concepts/ stuff being taught etc] or I take up PT - somewhat uncharted territory

I have concerns that because I already lack a certain level of science, I may struggle even more compared to the incoming students who come from JC or have done science related diplomas.

Are there any PT/ HSS students/ alumni that have any advice? [whether you come from a similar situation from me (non science bg) or not ]
I would love some insights as to how you decided that this course was for you, how you coped with the content, what I should expect if I decide to continue on this PT route etc.
If you think I should not take PT please share why too! I am open to all perspectives :)

Extra info:
I have very basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics etc…as I did take up sports science in secondary school (although I didn’t do well and this was also 5 years ago😐….I have been rereading my notes lately tho)

I am okay 🫤 with continuing what I have already completed studying in poly, but I’m not sure if I can see myself staying in the industry for long at all which is why I am having a hard time picking. I always think the grass is greener on the other side so I really am trying to weigh pros and cons here.
Doesn’t help that my mom is already telling people that I am heavily considering/ am going into physio already, I feel immense pressure to choose well because I had many regrets of not choosing my poly course well in the beginning

any advice for physio?

Y3 poly student here hoping to enter SIT Physiotherapy after graduation 🙏

Are there any seniors/current students/admissions officers willing to share what they did to get accepted/look out for? I’m not very sure where I stand portfolio-wise at the moment, so I’d really appreciate hearing about your GPA, shadowing experience, leadership roles, volunteering, interview prep, etc.

For context, I’m currently studying sports science and have been trying to build my portfolio through leadership, volunteering, and clinical exposure, but I’m still unsure what SIT Physio looks out for most heavily.

Would really appreciate any advice or honest insights, thank you!

SIT Applied Computing via CSM

Anyone from this degree can shre more insight on what it's like being in the programme? Am interested in pursuing this, but am curious on the workload considering it is a part-time degree programme.

Am also curious whether students find the information they learn in the degree helpful/relevant. Thank you!

Not even an interview? My sister is devastated

My sister applied to SIT's Food and Business Management (Baking and Pastry Arts), and Culinary as second choice.

She seemed to have the perfect application, at-least to me, because she has been running a home bakery since she was 13 years old. She has been doing baking for like 6 years already. She marketed her business through Instagram, so she had a huge portfolio of videos and edits of all the things she had made over the years.

I made sure to submit her portfolio as Instagram profile, YouTube montage of her work, PDF with all of her works, even a website I made and bought a domain name for it too.

Not only she is passionate in baking, she is a merit student too. She scored 490/500 in 10th grade and 575/600 in 12th grade, even though we only submitted forecasted mark for 12th grade, her actual mark came out last week and she got exact 575 as her forecasted mark.

Not only that,
She has won international Abacus competitions, well versed in Classical(mastery level) and Western Dance, delivered motivational speeches to colleges, she was invited as Chief Guest to talk about her entrepreneurial journey. Basically all the typical stuff that unis expect students to have.

All this, she worked so damn hard, studied so hard, hoping she would get into a uni like SIT. But alas no, even I feel so devastated, I know how damn hard she worked, how much stress she was going through just to go to an environment where she can master her passion. We even visited Singapore just to see all the Unis, visited Punggol campus, and also Temasek (where SIT conducts pastry arts), she got so excited about SIT because of that.

Sorry about getting emotional, but I genuinely want to know, if she didn't have the kind of things SIT expects or is it more about SIT preferring students who studied Diploma related to the field? because in 2025 megathread I saw two people posted about Food Business Management, both of them studied Food Science and Technology. We are from India and we usually don't study Diploma like SG, but I actually prefer that.

BTW, if you are wondering, I emailed admission her actual mark after the result was out, and they replied saying all the offers were given out already in April. That's how I know she got rejected.

Anyone else feel like it’s very easy to fall sick at SiT

Stuff like colds and flu etc. I realised lots of people fall sick at one go each time from just being in the same room. I wonder if it’s the ventilation or tables etc needing anti viral treatment. Maybe also all of us being basically sleep deprived means easy to catch something

Personally I’ve felt sick more times in a year at uni vs when I was in army. Might consider wearing a mask indoors all the time now for lectures

Anyone else feel like they’ve been sick or sick feeling more often after enrolling
