how difficult is it to get into Coop in Sauder as a transfer student?

Potential International Transfer student here! I got a Y2 offer for UBC Sauder and I’m thinking if I should accept it.

How difficult is it to get into Sauder Coop?

Is it a lot more difficult for transfer students?

I know that we’ll be competing with the Fast Track Coop students to get into Sauder - Are there a lot of Fast Track Coop students, leaving very little space for the rest of us?

TYSM! :)

UBC Sauder Current students' insights needed!

Hi everyone, I'm an incoming Gr 12 student currently considering applying for undergrad at Sauder come September. Could current Sauder students address the following? Thank you in advance!

How is the job market competition for new sauder grads?

How are the career pathways offered at UBC (which ones are best in terms of security and financial gain)? Does it prep people for success career-wise? What are some pros and cons of the co-op program?

Any specific career advantages a strong UBC sauder student could get in the market?

Can a sauder grad reasonably break into the big consulting/ib companies in the US or in eastern canada?

genuinely how do y'all take notes in university

ik this question sounds kinda stupid, but i’m entering UBC Sauder this fall and i’ve always wondered how note-taking actually works in university 😭

like, lectures are apparently 2–3 hours long and seem way more like one-sided prof lectures compared to high school classes. how do you:

- know what’s actually important?

- keep up with the pace of the lecture?

- avoid spending hours re-organizing notes after class?

- deal with classes where profs barely post notes/slides?

also what apps/devices do people actually use? i’ve heard everything from iPads to laptops to handwritten notes and i genuinely can’t tell what works best.

does your approach also change depending on the subject? like:

- math/calculus/statistics

vs

- more qualitative courses like marketing, commerce, org behaviour, etc.

would appreciate literally any advice from current uni students because i feel weirdly unprepared for this part specifically...

Art to Sauder transfer

I am currently deciding between Arts and Beedie, and I’m leaning toward Arts first and then trying to transfer to Sauder second year. I have a few questions regarding the process.

- For Arts, should I choose CAP (Political Science, Philosophy, Economics) or building your own timetable if my goal is transferring to Sauder?

- What GPA would you recommend aiming for to have a competitive transfer application (85+)?

- how easy is arts to transfer to other business schools like Rotman or smith?

Please provide me with some advice please!!!

UBC or McGill???

Hey y'all, I got into McGill just a few days ago, and I never thought I would consider it as much as I do now. I've always wanted to go to UBC and I got my acceptance in January.

My question is this: Is it worth going to McGill Desautels instead of UBC Sauder???

If I go to UBC:

- I'll live at home (saves money)

- Transit by bus/skytrian 1.5h ish to get there

- Already have friends, jobs, life here

- I am more familar with the environment + what to expect since I've done way more research and have older friends that can help me and give me their insights/tips etc

If I go to McGill:

- I'll get to speek French (it's my first language)

- I've heard McGill is more internationally recognised

- New place, new people

- Independence!!!

- It costs a lot of money???? I saw it's almost DOUBLE of what I would pay if I went to UBC

Unfortunately, money is my main issue. I have been working since before highschool and managed to save up enought for 4 years at UBC but not enough for 4 years at McGill. I've applied to a bunch of scholarships but I haven't heard back yet.

I want the best education that I can get and I know that wherever I'll go, I'll be successful. However, my school and the environment will play a role in shaping who I become in the future. Let me know any advice or your experiences with the two schools. THANKS!!!

What are my chances for UBC Sauder?

I’m a Grade 11 student in BC going into Grade 12 soon, and I’m planning to apply to UBC Sauder. I’m trying to get a realistic idea of my chances and what I should focus on improving before applications.

Current grades:

My current average is around 92–94%, depending on which courses are counted.

Some of my main grades:

- Accounting 11: 95%
- First People’s Socials 12: 99%
- Marketing 11: 97%
- Pre-calc 10 Math (didn’t take it last year because my career path was different)  90%
- Entrepreneurship 12 (so far): 98%
- New Media 11 (so far): around 93%
- Overall average: roughly 92–94%

For Grade 12, I’m aiming for around a 92–96% average, especially in English, Pre-Calculus, and business-related courses.

Planned Grade 12 / extra courses:

I’m planning to take:

- Economics 12
- Accounting 12
- Pre-Calculus 11
- World History 12
- Environmental Science 11

I may also take an extra semester of high school to strengthen my transcript and profile, and to complete Pre-calc 12 and English 12.

Extracurriculars / leadership:

- Founder and President of my school’s AI Club
- Organizing AI-related meetings, presentations, and workshops for students
- Currently helping organize and co-director the Surrey Youth AI Summit, a student-led event focused on AI literacy, no-code AI tools, and student-built AI prototypes for local businesses (has similarities to case comp. and is a competition)
- Building a project called ClubOps AI, an AI tool meant to help student clubs plan meetings and reflect after meetings
- Co-VP of my school’s Model United Nations club
- Involved in fundraising and helping grow/rebuild the MUN club
- Manage/update school announcement slides and help with school communication graphics
- Around 75+ volunteer hours, aiming to pass 100+ from school communications announcement computer
- Some business/marketing-related experience through school projects, club promotion, and event planning
(AI relates to business, so that’s why I’m focusing a lot on it)

Things I’m planning to pursue:

- Apply for the YELL program
- Apply for library teen council
- Try Get a part-time job
- Potentially start a small AI-related business or project
- I will become president of Model UN in grade 12

I know Sauder cares a lot about the personal profile, leadership, initiative, and impact, not just grades. My main concern is whether my extracurriculars are strong enough compared to other applicants, and whether my average is competitive enough.

Would appreciate honest thoughts on my chances, what stands out, and what I should improve before applying.

Comm 295 inquiries

Hi sauder people,

I am posting from a peculiar position. I will be enrolled in the international relations program next winter term, and I am hoping to pursue the stream in economics. One of my specialization courses, Econ 455, can take Comm 295 as a prereq over Econ 301; however, when I checked for Comm 295, the only prerequisites are Econ 101 and Econ 102. I received grades of 96 and 89 in these two courses, so algebra and graphing are no big deal. Nonetheless, because Math 100 and 101 were not explicitly required for my specialization and plus the high school course issues, I never took them. Furthermore, on the Sauder website, it was said that credit would be granted only to either Comm 295 or Econ 301 (a course with prerequisites for math 100 and 101). So now I'm wondering like, how much calculus would be involved in Comm 295, and whether or not I should pick Comm 295 to take Econ 455 at all (there are other courses with only Econ 101 and 102 prereq too, and I only need nine credits to satisfy the stream) Also if I may add, my plan after undergrad is law school with potential focus on being a M&A lawyer, which is why I decided to pursue the stream of economics instead of diplomacy and peace studies in IR. Any input would be greatly appreciated

Warm regards.

What courses should I pick for first year

I have transfer credits for both of the econ courses, what electives should I replace them with if I want to maximize my changes to get into the 'early start for finance' program? If grades matter a lot for the program, any advice on easy courses that'll teach/help me towards the program? I can also handle harder/demanding courses, so also any advice on hard courses that will help for the program or finance in general? Anyone happen to know the acceptance rate for the program?
