Acid reflux induced night cough - Advice
I’ve been having night coughs due to acid reflux the past 5 days.
I’ve been on Omeperazole 20mg morning and night and take it an hour before food and sleep 2 hours after.
I’m absolutely fine during the day with mild throat clearing or a slight cough occasionally. At night i start coughing the moment I start to drift off.
I’ve also been taking elm bark capsules before bed with Gaviscon. I sleep with an elevated wedge.
I’ve gone to my GP and they have ruled out infection or anything and basically said I’m fine but upped my dosage to 40mg Pantoprazole morning and night.
At this point I’ve not slept in 5 days and I’m exhausted.
I’ve got a trip coming up Friday with some multi day hikes planned next Monday to Wednesday.
If i get 6-8 hours of sleep j would be fine but that’s been impossible with me waking up coughing every two hours or less.
I had a similar attack in January during peak winter, after a flu. I ended up losing my voice and taking a month to recover.
It’s much milder this time and it’s mainly my sleep that’s bothering me.
Is there anything else i can do? Practically what are the odds me making the trip + hike?
I’m very active, workout 4-5 times a week ( strength and cardio) . Eat 60-80 gms of protein, eat my fibre and carbs.
I’ve been under immense stress at work and have skipped some meals and not been too careful with my stomach in the last few weeks - which is why I’m here.
Maybe it’s the lack of sleep but I’m extremely anxious and really need this trip - a break I’ve planned since January.
Any leads would be great
Thanks!
