I just had a force of 24k troops get completely routed by a force of 13k. My entire army gone. Retinues, Levies, Vassal Levies. I had my best commanders on the lines. It was a holy war on the shattered map where I started as Constantinople and was trying to finally kill Bulgaria. Please tell me how this is possible so I don’t fuck it up again. They had 30% bonus for defending in hilly terrain but I had a good mix of light infantry, heavy infantry, and archers in my retinues and whatever else my other armies had. Any help and advice is appreciated

Spoilers for like the first half of gathering storm.
Also this is my first read through so go easy on me.

EGWENE IS AMAZING. This whole arc of her undermining Elida in the tower is top notch. The final crash out of Elida during the dinner scene is just so perfect. My jaw is simply on the floor. I got semi spoiled that Egwene was going to be made amyrlin, or however any of this is spelled, but she has completely and totally grown into the role. Standing up and staring at Elida while she beats the brakes off of her with the power until she loses consciousness from blood loss?!? This woman is insane. I want to know what the history books will say of her, most bad ass amyrlin of all time. Anyway super stoked to be finish up the series, wish me luck just had to rant rq

Trying to puzzle this out in my head. I’ve just started path of daggers (like 2 chapters in) and am trying to figure out what exactly the dark one did to make the weather stick in summer mode.

Scientifically, the seasons changing is a result of the earths tilt and the orbit around the sun causing the different hemispheres to get uneven amounts of sunlight leading to the warmer and colder months. This air that is heated differently basically circulates in sections around the globe and the corrieolis effect causing the prevailing winds and such.

Being that Randland is basically the remains of southern europe and northern Africa it is arguable that it is entirely in the northern hemisphere. The question I have is simply how the dark one “extended summer.” For this to happen the earth would literally have to freeze in its orbit, or else the earths tilt would have to be knocked out of alignment so violently that the earths tilt itself spun with the orbit of the planet orienting the poles towards the sun at all times throughout the orbit.

Resulting from this either the night sky would not change at all (frozen in space) which might fit, or be thrown completely out of sync (a rotating pole). The second one would be so obviously noticed it would have to be remarked simply because the North Star wouldn’t work anymore and that could hardly be missed. So back to the first theory. Say he simply decelerated the earths orbit to a rate so slow that summer stretched on. That would probably stop us from getting launched off into space but effort by the dark one on that magnitude from his prison sounds unlikely.

The only possible thing I could think of would have to be something of the effect of the Ta’verin have on the pattern. In that a 1/1000 chance has a much higher likely hood of happening. The odds of having a hot day in the winter aren’t terrible, you do get heat waves from time to time in the winter months. The dark one would have to be focusing the effort onto the pattern to string together months of chances that it would be hot due to some scientific factor that would make sense in a normal weather cycle. That’s the only possible thing I could think of. Lmk if this makes any sense or if you all have any better explanations on what could be happening here

First read through, currently at the beginning of a crown of swords. The girls are pissing me off. Elayne and Nynaeve are truly infuriating. They are in Ebu Dar or whatever the spelling is of that city and are looking for the Terangrial. They can’t find it, they’ve been there a number of weeks and they can’t. BUT IF THEY WOULD TELL MAT ANYTHING. He would find it instantly. They could spin this dude in a circle blindfolded and say mat point the direction we need to go and he’d point right at the bloody thing. They literally cannot speak to him right now and it’s their own damn fault. Too proud to talk to him bc they don’t see him as anything more than a gambler and a little boy, and to afraid to talk to him because they are afraid he doesn’t see them as Aes Sedai. I’m so irritated at the lack of communication. Egwene knew of mats crazy luck at least some of it and could have told the others something. Like we can portal around the world whenever we need and talk to anyone in their dreams and we can’t get it through our heads to ask people anything. I’m just irritated and needed to rant. I’m sure I miss-spelled everything so just give an audible listener a break lol
