Meet up with buyer and was asked to count cash before inspecting the good
Posted a brand new Chanel22 bag and listed it for over $5k. Someone called “Francis” messaged me and said he’s interested in purchasing and immediately asked to meet up.
My wife thought it was suspicious because he didn’t ask for more pictures. He did ask if we have the papers, but we don’t so we offered to bring it in to authenticate at a consignment store if he is interested. He then said we can just meet up for the purchase. So we meet up at a busy mall at city center.
Since my wife thought the whole thing was weird, she decided to go to the meet up with me, and a guy that look nothing like his profile picture showed up and asked to go to somewhere less crowded.
We walked to a cafe that is connected to the mall, the connection area didn’t have much people, and he said we can just trade outside of the cafe. We asked him if he wants to check the bag now, and he said we should count the cash first because he doesn’t want any trouble.
He then took an envelope out with 5k cash and asked me to count it. I counted it and the cash feels and looks real, he asked me to count it again.
I asked my wife to count it another time. We confirmed that the amount was right, the guy took the cash back and put it into the envelope and put the envelope back to his bag.
He then asked to inspect the Chanel bag. We took it out, he looked at it front and back, didnt even open the bag, and told us it is not what he is looking for and left.
We still have the Chanel bag, and he has actual cash.
The whole experience was so weird. Why would someone ask you to count the money twice before even inspecting the good?
Was he going to just take the bag and run?
