What are fixes someone should absolutely do before trading in thieir car to buy?

Hi there. I have a 2018 Subaru forester 2.5i premium with 85k miles. I'm awaiting a second opinion but am generally wondering which of these you recommend taking care of before I were to trade in my car (or even sell it to Carvana). Does this reddit group have the right folks to advise? Assuming "car sales" also has to do with taking trade ins?

I was told I needed: NEW COMPRESSOR, FREON AND OIL AND A/C DEY TRACER, TWO IDLER PULLEEYS, AND A DRIVE BELT.

Is the penalty for trading in a car with these issues going to knock the trade in price down more than the $1800 I was quoted to fix all of it?

Trading in/selling my Subaru for a "new" -- advice on situation

Hey all,

I hope this is the right place. I've done so freaking much research on this process that I can't see straight anymore. I'd love some advice on: 1) what to do in preparation, 2) how/where to sell my car, and 3) WHEN to buy.

I have a 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium. 85k miles.

It needs a new compressor, and according to the shop as of yesterday....

  • Freon, oil, and a/c dey tracer
  • Two idler pulleys
  • ++ A drive belt

This will cost me about $1,800. For buying a car or assuming I trade it in, and perhaps this is better for the SELLING a car sub, do I put the money into it? Or skip it? Will the loss be greater than what I invest in the fixes?

Now, on the true buying part.

  • Are there any hard/fast recommendations for when to buy?
  • How to get "the best deal"? How do I know that a number we've reached IS a good out-the-door price..?
  • Is it ridiculous to put no money down?

How’s eastern market on Saturdays much later in the day

Hello and quick question. My friend comes in tomorrow and my plan was taking her to eastern market for tasty food and fresh fruit. We probably couldn’t get there until 2:30-3. Since it closes at 4, wanted to check if anyone knows if it’s usually dried out at this time.

Could go Sunday instead but that’s a different market

Best Buddhist books for healing?

Hello! I’ll keep this short: I am an ex-Christian who deals with C-PTSD. I’ve done a ton of therapy and am in a mode where I want to think LESS about myself and my issues. I’m prone to intellectualizing my problems and I think that a spiritual path that isn’t evangelical could be helpful.

Any intro to Buddhism books yall recommend or enjoyed?

How to make my best friend (from Scottsdale) fall in love with Detroit

Hi! My bestie is coming from Phoenix and has no idea how lovely Detroit really is. I want to give her an iconic Detroit experience. I have a list of things going that I know she and I both will love (and love doing together), but what am I missing here?

  • Sauna moment (either Little Schvitz or Islandview Sauna)
  • Dinner at Pine Hall for skyline views and cocktails
  • Jazz @ Cliffs? She loves a jazz bar.
  • We're driving for an overnight to Saugatuck for that emily henry beachy experience -- cruiser bikes, thrifting, camping near the beach.
  • Pilates @ hot bones
  • Coffee @ washed up, walk around the west village

I just feel like there is SO MUCH. How to make a Phoenecian fall in love with cultural Detroit — girls trip moments. She isnt into museums.

Remote (agency) TO hybrid (in-house). WWYD?

Hi all,

Haven't used this sub before, but I’ve posted this to others and am trying to find the best place for some “friendly” advice. I’ve been stirring on this and am approaching a final interview next week, so I want to sort my thoughts before a potential offer.

The situation — I've been in a "cushy" role for some time and remote for the last 6 years. A company has been trying to recruit me. The first go-round, I withdrew my application because there wasn’t promise or alignment on some things I feel nonnegotiable.

CURRENT JOB: Fully remote, have been for 4 years. Making 105k. Unlimited PTO that is encouraged and practiced, even by my manager. Creative marketing role. Great boss who trusts us to get our work done and provides all the autonomy I could ask for. Not suuuuuper challenging/challenged, but work with really big-name clients that look solid.

New opp: Temporarily hybrid (3d). Understanding that we are relocating and would be moving out of state, would transition to remote status with monthly and/or quarterly travel needed (likely monthly). Salary would be 135k. Also, a transition to in-house, leaving agency life. Another creative marketing job. Different work to add to my resume and skills to learn.

I've done interviews casually along the way, but I am very, very grateful for the job I have. The freedom I have allows me to be picky with opportunities. The new job opportunity would be a good challenge for me and more money, but I am VERY spoiled in my work now.

When is it time to intentionally step toward some DIScomfort in the name of growth and increased salary? What other things would you be considering here?

A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER —
• I don’t want to climb the ladder. I don’t need to become VP of anything nor have c-suite goals. I prefer lateral moves that allow me to explore interests.
• If I end up regretting my decision, I could simply look for another with more autonomy again. But the market has been tough.
• My current salary pays the bills and funds my hobbies but the way this country is going, I’m scared if I’m not job-hopping that 5 years down the road, 100k will feel super behind and much tighter.

It would be a company and career move that could give me an extra 30k per year while we save for moving back to the west coast. But… what if I give up a great job for that?

Edit: Now reading over this, it’s almost certain this new job/company would be temporary (a few years). The long term goal is getting back to a company where I essentially make my own schedule like I do now (mostly) so I can live my life, but perhaps with higher pay?

Favorite detroit hobby groups?

Hi there! A general search can be overwhelming, so wanted to ask Detroit folks (and surrounding cities). What are your favorite hobby groups?

I am looking for groups that are not overwhelmingly large, so I don't get lost in the sauce/numbers. I'd love to find a group that is ~10 or less people with fairly consistent members, and am open to most things reading/crafty/etc.

Brag on what you're part of! Especially if new folks are welcome!

(Remote) 100k to (hybrid TO remote) 135k — would you do it?

Hi all,

Haven't used this sub before as I've been in a "cushy" role for some time, but an opportunity came up, and I'm feeling torn. I would love an outside perspective (TLDR: when do you willingly step toward a slightly less comfortable role for growth/money?)

Job now: Fully remote, have been for 4 years. 100k. Unlimited PTO that is encouraged and practiced, even by my manager. Creative marketing role. Great boss who trusts us to get our work done and provides all the autonomy I could ask for. Not super challenging/challenged, but work with really big-name clients that look solid.

New opp: Temporarily hybrid (3d). Understanding that we are relocating and would be moving out of state, would transition to remote status with monthly and/or quarterly travel needed. 130k. Also, a transition to in-house, leaving agency life. Another creative marketing job.

I've done interviews casually along the way, but I am very, very grateful for the job I have. The freedom I have allows me to be picky with opportunities. The new job opportunity would be a good challenge for me and more money, but what are the other perks worth? Having unlimited pto (that we genuinely use) and autonomy is "priceless" in many ways. Is it rose colored glasses and the niceness of feeling wanted?

When is it time to intentionally step toward some DIScomfort in the name of growth and increased salary? What other things would you be considering here?

Anyone else’s City of Ferndale Water Bill DOUBLE

The title.

We haven’t seemingly done anything different, but our upcoming July payment/bill (I assume we’re all on quarterly?) is MORE THAN double what it usually is.

What the hell am I missing?

KI/KI or dom?

Lots of complaints about the underground so I’m curious… who do you think is the MUST today between KI/KI vs Dom Dolla? I didn’t spend anytime underground yesterday (to my loss perhaps)

And generally who today is A MUUUUST

WoS solo (post 5 am) — good idea?

Suddenly trying to fill my weekend with my bucket lists opposed to waiting around for people to show up and wanna go with me! I want to experience Wall of Sound and the arrival after 5 am tix are $55.

Is going solo to WoS a bad idea for any reason? I’m fine with solo quests but the thought of “no phones” (for emergencies) and it having been completely dark two years ago makes me a little nervous.

Any other lone ladies need a pal?!

Hey hey! Local Detroit-er here. I’m bringing my partner on Monday but going solo on Sunday AND haven’t committed to any afters because I don’t have friends going. Any other ladies in the same position want to couple up for anything?

I’m toying with:

• Saturday (skipping mvmnt this day) — ODD MOB • Sunday — THE HOOD NEEDS HOUSE: Levin Sanderson b2b Josh baker
• Sunday — 999999999, Skream, Eli brown • Monday — dom dolla, green velvet, & boys noize

I’m a 33 y/o introvert who lets loose on the dance floor. I don’t drink much but know how to have a good time 🫶🏼🪩

Also doing the techno 5k on Saturday if anyone needs a race bud!
